Regurlar Unleaded or Premium?
Is there a sticker on the inside surface of the gas door or around the gas filler? If so what does it read regarding what octane to use?
EDIT: RIGHT! My point being to the OP Rocky Mountain, do what the sticker says! If the car requires premium, put in premium. If the car requires regular, put in regular, unless you want max performance so you can dust off those pesky Yugos, Yarises, and Trabants
.

Unleaded fuel only.
Premium fuel recommended for maximum performance.

The following apply if you have a sedan (I don't have a coupe manual to reference so I'm not going to say it is a blanket equal though it *should* be)
If you have an 03-06 automatic you have the option of putting in regular though it says you will get better performance from premium.
If you have an 03-06 manual then I am 99% sure the manual says that premium is required.
I assume you do not have an 07 without a manual so hopefully the above will help you.

It says:
Sedan 6MT: 91 Required
Sedan 5AT: 87 Required, 91 Recommended.
Coupe All Models: Premium Required
The interesting part, is that in 05', the Sedan 5AT and Coupe 5AT have the same engine, but the fuel requirements did not change. Coupe still requires 91, Sedan still says recommended. Personally, I think they just never updated the owners manual.
There have been 2 tanks of gas over 3 1/2 years were I put 87 octane in and I noticed it driving less than perfect. Time of year? Slightly bad grade of gas?
I'm arbitrary about gas. If I'm thinking money, I'll put 87 in. I'll put in 89 or 91 sometimes, even though it really doesn't make a difference.

91 always - w/ occasional lucas cleaner or RACE GAS ( dilluted ) buying race gas for 9.00 a gallon is so much cheaper than paying the same price for oz.'s ( of course - always diluuted w/ 91 )
