High Mileage / Reliability

This is my first Nissan/Infiniti product, other than an Altima I had in high school which I only had for about a year.

I bought my G35, and plan on keeping it for a long time. I have had Acuras and BMWs.

For those of you who have had lots of miles with Nissan/Infiniti products, are they reliable and relatively trouble free? I would expect about 100k trouble free miles. (I'm not talking minor trim problems, rattles, etc. Those things happen in almost all cars).

I'm referring to engine, tranmission, major components. Does the VQ series engine run well with 50k, 75k miles? I hear it is pretty bulletproof.

Finally, should I get an extended warranty? I normally never purchase such things but the push button start, console screen, etc. give me pause on this issue.

Thanks in advance, this place and its members are a great source of information.

Had a Maxima up to 138K miles and no major issues. Current G is only at 50K miles now, but so far so good. Have a couple friends with 03 G's and no issues either. Pretty reliable cars....

Had a 1992 300ZX until 2004 (with the VG30DE) and 76k miles, and it ran like a champ. I did have to replace a few fuel injectors at one point, but everything else was bulletproof.

I expect many troublefree miles from my G. The engine is used in many Nissan products and well rated.

75k so far and not one issue. Still runs as strong as the day I drove it of the dealer lot.

the VQ is a realiable engine if it's not boosted. I'm at 69K and no engine problems. Other **** will break though, like the keyless entry and all the other high-tech bells and whistles. The transmission is ok, not as strong as an sti trans, but much better than a 02 -03 wrx. Those are cars that I am familair with. Really depends on how you service and take care of it.

Depends on the type of tranny. The 5AT is extremely robust being primarily developed for a V8 with 340 ft/lbs of torque. The 6sp is kinda weak and has always had durability issues. I believe newer the 6mt, the stronger it is in terms of design (its been revised every year).

It's all in the maintenance. Keep the fluids serviced per the schedule and the drivetrain will outlast your desire to keep the car. As someone else said, it's all the plastic/electric stuff that starts failing that makes you want to trade the car, not the engine/trans (if it's maintained). Tint the windows all around ASAP to keep the UV out as that will make the interior stuff last MUCH longer too. That and keep the leather conditioned with Lexol every 3-4 months to prevent cracks etc.

I have a co-worker on his 3rd manual transmission in his '02 WRX. It might be his driving style though... I say this because he seized the motor as well. I add Subarus to my list of cars I won't buy. This in addition to Mitsubishi's and Audi's.

I have an 03 (bought new in 04) with close to 106K. No major issues, still on the original clutch.
