Fuel Gauge issue
Fuel Gauge issue
Doing a quick search I didn't see any threads regarding this problem:
I have an 04 coupe
My fuel gauge doesn't seem to be working properly. The last two times I've filled the tank, the needle will only go to between 3/4 and F when I first start it at the gas station. It will slowly rise after that, but still never touches the full hash mark.
Also, the gauge was sitting on the E, with the fuel light on, before I filled it up. I ended up getting 16 gallons. But the fuel capacity on the car is 20 gallons, according to the specs I've seen. Is it normal for the low fuel light to turn on with 4 gallons left in the tank?
Has anyone else encountered this? She's still under warranty, so I'll be bringing it in in the next couple days, but I'm still curious if any one else has seen this.
Thanks

Bring it in to your dealership. There was a TSB for the Coupe filler neck, which has a valve in it that works on pressure. If the gas pump fills to quickly, the valve will shut prematurely, and the pump will shut off....I have not taken mine in, because it does not happen too frequently with my car.
If you find your car is taking less gas, than stop the pump, remove the nozzle, and fill again slowly....you should be able to fill all the way then.
There is also a recall on our years for a possible vent hose failure....take it in if you haven't done that already.
My guage seldom goes over the hash mark unless I top it off by hand manually. And it does take some time before it reads accurately.
I believe the reserve is around 2 gallons.
Hope this helps

It's happened to me once so far, it would not fill above a 1/2 tank. There was nothing wrong with the gauge. As said, there is a valve near the inlet that sometimes sticks.
Known tech bulletin on it.

The shutter valve will make it difficult to fill. If it is full & the guage is incorrect it's one of the sending units. There are 2 & usually the drivers side is the one that fails.
