All G35 Coupe owner!!!! Is an extended warranty really worth it???

My 04 G35MT Coupe warranty is expiring today....its only got 45,000 miles on it....so my years ran out before my mileage did..... I was splitting my driving time with the G and my other vehicle..... Don't have the other car no more...
Was asked by the Infiniti dealership about purchasing an extended warranty. Here's what the warranty Infiniti package are:

24/24,000 = $2121.06
36/36,000 = $2545.06
48/48,000 = $3061.30

I've been trying to decide whether to get it or not....... What do you guys think...... Would it be worth it..... I have to let the dealership know by today since my warranty expires today....

Greg

not worth it IMO. Just set aside some cash in a savings account or money market just in case you need to do work on the car. I doubt you could need 2-3 grand in service done to the car in the next 2-4 years. The Air conditioning seems to be reliable from what I've read and the engine should be fine for a long while. Just do regular service to the G and you should be fine.

It's worth it if you drive your car hard, but those prices seem kinda high. My Infiniti bumper to bumper extended warranty plan for 4 years/60,000 miles only cost me $2000.

statistics show that very rarely do people end up using or getting their money's worth from the extended warranty. having said that, i did purchase the extended warranty when i purchased my car b/c i tend to have crappy luck w/ things breaking on me haha AND i drive my car pretty hard. so, i have it for peace of mind.

Warranty costs....?

I wouldn't (haven't) purchased any warranty but Infinities. I've seen too many
warranty company's deny claims because of little infractions....oversized tires
as an example. These prices you were quoted are waaaaay to high! Shop
around and only buy an extended Infiniti warranty!

when it comes to warranties I think it is worth it. I bought the 100k extended warranty (bought my car used) and it is still under the 60k factory warranty that the previous owner bought. electrical problems are pretty common on G35's for instance; my lock actuator didn't work sometimes, my window actuator acts up occasionally, and my trip meter wouldn't restart (causing me to get a whole new gauge cluster)..and I got all that replaced for free, with all that added up plus labor I'm pretty sure it adds up to about 2k which I think is more than what I paid for extended warranty.

and as far as the stealership trying to void your warranty because of oversized tires, dropped car, etc... they have to prove that the one specific mod. messed up whatever is wrong with your car.

I got the extended warranty. I just told myself that it would be worth piece of mind in my G's later years.

I bought my care in 2005 and it was a 2003 with only 18K miles on it. I just told myself it's better to have it covered.

it better be worth it cause i got it. your prices seem high though. mine was 36m/36k for $1800. found out both my headlight housings were cracked a week before mine expired. "if" i went to the dealer and got new ones, thats pretty much what i would have to pay anyways. i looked at it as $600 a year. thats not bad for less worries and good loaner car whenever i need it.

Check your local credit union and see if they offer better prices.

Those prices may be negotiable that they gave you as well. The dealer isnt paying near that for their warranties, and marks them up for a nice profit (you would be surprised how much they mark them up too!)

As for warranty companies being extremely picky about mods, Ive only ever used gaurdian (what I sell) and First Extended (what my silvy came with) Neither has ever been hardcore about covering a part. First extended was more than happy to replace my engine when they heard I had a ticking coming from it (turned out to just be a chevy thing ) And that was with aftermarket intake exhaust custom tune a lift and oversized tires (factory was 29, I have 33's lol).

Good luck with the decision!

Don't forget that the standard powertrain warranty on the G is 6 years/ 70K.

IMHO unless you drive high miles the extended warranty isn't worth it.

I have found that if you exceed warranty on time rather than miles, Infiniti NA will try to accommodate owners in extending bumper to bumper warranty past expiration, within reason.

As a sign of good faith on owners part they at least like to see that you do have some maintenance done at dealerships.

my 04 had 12k on it when I spent $1600 to have it covered (b2b) til 2012 or 90k miles which ever comes first - smart investment if you ask me

the way I see it - I could easily rack up a $1600 repair bill once im out of warranty

I really think warranty is worth it.. I bought my car it had 89000km on it and the warranty was just about to be out.. so I bought 36/30000km for 1700$ i saved the broker fees of 450$ so thats pretty good.. and yeah like its been said just think about your differential going or engine problems, or even any type of electrical problems like power windows, leather seats, ac, vdc, climate control. whatever u know all that is covered.. Its peace of mind not knowing what the previous owner did with the car. I personally took the Ultimate Premium warranty that covers basically EVERYTHING.. but there is a few notes in there that tell you whats not covered so make sure you take a peak at that.

If you're in So Cal.... I can get you alot more coverage for less.

My Platinum Package(Comprehensive) for

Months/Miles Premium Deductible
48/48,000 $1022.00 no deductible
48/48,000 $859.00 $250 deductible
36/45,000 $1017.00 $100 Deductible
36/45,000 $855.00 $250 deductible

There are other packages that cover less but they also cost less.... Check your local credit union if you're not in so cal.

Also note that this Warranty Co. has been in business for over 40 years and also offers GAP for $299.00. Our extended warranty also comes with sign and drive tow service up to $100. $500 chelter allowance if car breaks down over 100 miles from home.

In my experience, I usually beat dealers/3rd party extended warranties in prices.

Edit: Shoot me a PM/Aim(same username) if you're in socal and looking for warranties.
