$7k in Insurance money. What to do.

I was the recent victim to a good bit of hail damage. They estimated repairs at 7K and have given me a check. I was thinking about going ahead and getting some aftermarket parts that I've always wanted. What could I get done for this price?

The hood must be replaced. - I was thinking carbon fiber.

The roof is pretty dented, either needs to be filled and painted or replaced - I was thinking about just filling and smoothing and getting the black overlay from Blue Batmobile.

The trunk has some dents as well, but not too bad.

There are dents on the chrome trim pieces around the windows? How much are these to replace, and how much to get them painted out black?

Soem dents along the curve under the windows on both sides, the adjuster said these could be popped out with PDR.

Basically, could I do all of this for the price, would I have more money left or what? My car is silver now, I'd like to change it to White after I load on some aftermarket aero parts.

thanks.

repainting the whole car will be a hassle. just sell it and get an ip coupe to start over with.

Hassle? They said the car would be in the shop 3 weeks to fix it, so whats a little more time. What is the price of a good color change like that, silver to white? 2 grand? 3 grand? Also, how much would be knocked off if I got a carbon fiber hood and the roof vinyl so those areas did not need paint?

thanks again.

a good paint job is about 420 a panel most of the time that will also include takeing it apart like the door handle mirror moldings. your in the 5-7 thousand for a good color change not worth it. buy a carbon fiber hood and trunk. replace the moldings that are messed up they are like 100 or so for one. paint the roof black. and see what the pdr guy can do. take the rest of the money and hold on to it.

from the sound of it you're gonna need the entire amount to fix the car... the window molding/trim is about a grand. You might be better off trying to find front end crash salvaged car and using the window trim off it... as for painting, if the shop removes (which I recommend) probably $300-$500... Why do I know? I was the first that I'm aware that painted the window trim almost 3 yrs ago.

Be prepared to have touch-up done on the paint after a couple years of thereafter.

Repainting your car a different color will just lower your resale value - not the best idea IMO.

You seem to have your heart set on exterior mods, but if I were you I'd consider putting the $7K towards a Vortech. Then you can drive around a hail-damaged G35 that goes like a bat out of hell!

Another idea since you already need a new hood, get a stillen SC kit and the hood which is needed, fill and black the roof. You should be good

5 years is a freakin long time. Unless you bought your G brand new... I'm probably not keeping mine more than 4 years total. You could always get a new overlay after 2 years too.

Hey I have a question about CF... How strong is it? I live in KS and its storm season.... Just got nailed with it last night and might just be better to get a new CF hood for the cost to fix it. So how would the CF do during a hail storm about golf ball size or so? Thats what we had last night and if I get another hood I wanna make sure that it won't crack. Just looking at the Seibon OEM style, any comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

I say sell it... and restart...

7K .. is good money, and you can unload this on someone for the difference I AM SURE!

give us more details on yr, mileage, etc... to see if it is worth 7K ...

Also if you go to repair you will get some supplement money for sure too...

is the car still considered a clean title car?

if yes...i'd get the carbon fiber roof and overlay it...and just replace everything else with OEM parts (used)

you SHOULD have coin left over for some nice mods
