Navigation Questions

hello, i will soon be buying a g35 coupe within a week or two. so far, i will be gettin a diamond graphite 5AT with premium and the performance wheel and tire package. i am debating about the navigation feature though. can someone share some information about the navigation system? what kind of features does it give you besides navigation assistance? is it easy to use? any info will be helpful. thanx

Re: Navigation Questions

It's an awesome toy as well as being a useful tool. Get one, you'll be glad you did. There are many here who didn't and wish they had.
IMO - well worth the $2k USD cost.
Features are too many to list, but it's very comprehensive.

Re: Navigation Questions

Yes, I have a DG auto also and have the navigation. Once you use one, you'll know you have to have it. I find it very useful. It shows you your location, directs you how to get places by address/name of place/phone number or closest fast food/restaurant/gas station/atm/whatever else you can think of. It will tell you if there is any problem with the car. It will tell you gas mileage, chart the car history, give you trip info. You'll never need to try to see a street sign in the dark again. Plus it just looks cool and makes the car seem more luxurious.

Re: Navigation Questions

My thought is that if you're already spending $34k or so, find a way to add the Nav. Spending this kind of money without getting a fully loaded car (you can get Nav in loaded Accord for $28k) doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Anyway, in addition to the 3D map, which I found to be more useful than originally thought, you also get a trip computer, fuel economy monitor, and maintenance interval reminder with the Nav. I'm directionally challenged so the Nav is actually quite useful for me. I also have the screen set at the fuel monitor a lot. It's definitely a cool toy that makes you car feel a little more luxurious.

Re: Navigation Questions

I have a DG coupe and was debating the question as well... but I figure since I'm already paying this much money for a car, that extra $2k won't make "that" much of a dent in the payments... Now that I have it, I love it. I've built up an address book, and just click and go and never get lost. I just moved to NYC and the roads here are crap and it's very easy to get lost.

Plus, it looks really cool and makes your car that much more luxurious. GET THE NAV!! That's my opinion... =)

Re: Navigation Questions

Hi bro, Go into Settings and check that the 'Short Menu' isn't selected (green square). Once that's done it activates the long menu and also the Address Book in Destination.
You can add (edit) the Address Book by further going into Settings and scrolling down to 'Navigation' , once in Navigation, then scroll down to 'Edit Address Book'.
Have fun

Re: Navigation Questions

A counterpoint to all these opinions.

I didn't want the added weight (our G's are fat enough), nor the knowledge that it would be sitting there in the heat all day long. I know that I will also get criticized for this but : I didn't like the look and how it covered the the clock and stuff on the dash. I'll probably regret this later, but since I got to keep the extra 2k for myself..

It doesn't cover the clock when it's not up.

Re: Navigation Questions

yea the g35's has the best navigation compared to any car. what other car that is out right now, has a navigation that can be tucked and hid away until you need it. i chose the navigation option over the aero and performance package, because i was going to get aftermarket wheels anyways. and the spoiler doesn't look all that great. before i owned a luxury car like the g35, i thought 2000 (same for most cars) was expensive.....now definitely know that its worth the price. navigation is the one thing that cheers me up when i regret not getting the six spd/ w brembos

Re: Navigation Questions

Whenever I pop up the NAV, I think of those talk shows where they push a button and the Plasma TV pops up behind the guests... It's such a cool toy!

MrElussive: Good to see that you've figured out that address book... It comes quite handy... you can just store all of your previous destinations and get there from anywhere. My only grip is that you have to use that darn joystick to punch it in the 1st time, but once you do, you're set.

Re: Navigation Questions

The navigation is a must. Very nice addition to the G35.

Re: Navigation Questions

Yea...too bad i can't say the same for the actual navigation software. I think the best one i've used so far is the Lexus one. Acura's isn't too shabby either.
