Stereo & dead battery...

Ok, so I've been having this issue of when I leave my car sitting for 2 or more days, it won't start. I have to get a jump. I've been reading about how the Bose system is usually to blame for this and that it costs 1k+ to fix. My quesiton is, can I just put in a regular cheap aftermarket head unit, or will that not work b'c of the A/C connectivity? I've heard about the "din" coversion kit, but I really don't want to put a lot on money into a 5 yr old car.

thanks in advance...PS...I'm on my 3rd new battery in 4 months...

But can I put in a cheaper model? Will it work given the Radio & AC dual hookup?

Buy a battery tender and use it. Your total cost is like $45.

You have to have the double din conversion in order to make the AC controls still work and be able to install an aftermarket radio. Once you get the conversion parts you can install any double din head unit you like, including cheap ones.

Have you had your car tested for current draws to confirm what is killing the battery?

I agree with the previous post. If it is the BOSE system, it may be the amplifier. If this is a consistent event that occurs every 48 hours, you may want to confirm that this is your problem by pulling the fuse to the amplifier the next time you leave the car for 48 hours. If it starts, then at least you will feel better about investing in a new stereo.

The other suggestion I have is that if it is the amplifier, wiring a relay may solve this problem. You may have to purchase a delay system as well if you here a 'pop' from your speakers when you turn your car on. The cost of the relay and the delay system would be the most cost effective solution but would require work on your part. I believe the amplifier is located in the trunk, on the roof to the driver's side.

When I got my radio repair I was told it was the memory circuitry for the radio that stored the channel selections. Unfortunately after 2 years I might have the same problem.

^ I never heard of the Bose system killing the battery even when the car is not on. Can anyone elaborate this?

OP, don't you think it's your time needing a new batter?
