If your parents will let you do it, then do it. The hell with what a lot of these "old" people on here say (just teasing guys ). Times are changing kids drive nice cars as well. Go for it.

The 2nd Gens (coupe and sedan) will do 5.3.

But the 1st gen coupe he's looking at is closer to 6.

I said 5.6, I think it's 5.8 though. I know the second gen is 5.4 I think. Still isn't that slow, my friends have some cars that still feel pretty fast but are in the low 7's(00 Acura TL, 06 Tiburon, some others)

Nah, the G37 Sedan is still a 2nd gen G. It'll be just an updated version of the current car. When they reach the end of this model cycle (usually every 4 to 5 years for most automakers) and introduce a totally new car, that will constitute the 3rd gen G.

03-06 G35 sedan = 1st gen… 07-present G35 sedan = 2nd… when the G37 sedan comes out it will be 3rd gen.

Why would you try to dispute this?

Can you help me find some more arguements to convince him to let me get it? Thanks in advance.
may be is easier to convince your parents with the new civic Si(most of parents knows Honda),as for you, it is better looking and faster then new the Corolla. G35 might be a tough one for you to convince them if they already excluded it in their mind.

Friend of my, just trade in his 04 G35 sedan for an used Doge Charger Hemi V8, now he is suffering 19 mpg or less depending on how he drives. Every time we took off the line, and he beated me but him and I both know that my car will goes further then his when he has to stop to get gas twice a week. Now he is car pooling with another guy to work, and drive less and enjoy less his Hemi.

Aaah, this has a Nick Hogan written all over it.
Just one example of what happens when kids get access to fast cars.
I went through high school and college with a 98 corolla my parents bought for it. I tried to make the best of it by tinting the windows and having a nice sound system in it. It was a car, got me from point A to point B and that's what I needed. Never failed me and with 158k miles I sold it for $3200.
I graduated and got both degrees (BS and MS), found a great job and then bought a new car, my G. While in college I saved $24k from the part time jobs I worked since I didin't have any expenses. I bought the G for $19k slightly used with 21k miles. With the rest of the money I rented an apartment, bought me all the furniture, an LCD TV and still had some left over money. The bottom line is, when you are in college and if you are a really good student then chances are you will not get much time to enjoy a car that will be depreciating every single minute. At the end, when you graduate, you will have an old car you will be tired of that will be worth around $12k.
For anyone in college the most important thing is to have a reliable car. You already have that and it will also be a good car for your sister. She will crash the G if you don't or if nothing happens to it then it will just go down in price big time and you will be out of money and stuck with a car you will want to sell as soon as you start making some real money.
You are talking like a very spoiled teenager and I see a lot of this now days. Also, the comment about the drinking sounded very immature. Kids in high school think they are the big deal when they drink a beer and start acting drunk. You really need to get your act together fast because real life won't wait for you. Most importantly, remember that a car is simply 4 wheels and an engine in the middle. It has one purpose, to tranport you. Big deal if you drive a G, a civic, or a Jeep. Peer pressure and marketing at their best in your case.
I only bought a G because it was a good deal at the time and it's a pretty reliable car. I was about to buy a fully loaded Accord V6 with Nav and everything for the same price. The G felt more comfortable and I've heard of stories people surving in the G due to its structural stability so I just got it. The mod bug did bite me though.

Anyways, sorry for the ridiculously long post. Just start thinking like an adult. You are almost at that age.

im 18 and ive had my 04 coupe since i was 17...never had a ticket or anything and my parents are fine with me owning the car. Granted i paid for the car myself but i don't see why you older folks are telling him he shouldn't have one? As long as he's responsible and doesn't go around trying to race every car in sight, like some kids, then it doesn't matter. This is an amazing machine and you will be a lucky guy if you get it. Oh and yea the eagle scout thing isn't gunna help u get the car lol. Anyways good luck man!

I think most of older folks had done that been there, therefore they are worry more about how kids are choosing their education over cars when they are still young. Once you are rolling with phat checks in the future then you can buy anything you want. However you can't really buy education because you have to learn it and use it.
