Which one's faster: '09 G37 sedan or '08 G37 coupe?

Ok, so we've all heard that Infiniti's upgrading the g sedan's engine to the 3.7L for '09. So will the sedan be able to smoke the G coupe? Or are they upping the hp and/or torque figures maybe in '09 as a '10 G37 coupe refresh? With the upcoming 370Z roadster, rumor has it that it'll have close to 350hp NA, so I figure that maybe they'll tweak the G coupe's power rating up as well. So even though the coupe's been out for only a year, there's always been somewhat of a performance gap between the sedan and the coupe with the latter being higher performance (at least from MY 03-04, and MY 08, anyway).

'08 G35 6MT sedan:
Weight: 3,532
306 hp/ 268 lb-ft torque
0-60 (Manual Transmission): 5.4 sec. (Motor Trend)

'08 G37 6MT coupe:
Weight: 3,668 lbs.
330 hp/ 270 lb-ft torque
0-60 (Manual Transmission): 5.2 sec. (Motor Trend)

'09 G37 sedan:
328 hp/ TBA

The current sedans are already faster than the coupes because of the extra weight. Car and Driver I believe, maybe another too, have tested the current sedan at 5.2 0-60

If everything else stays the same I would expect the sedan to be a little faster.

G37 sedan vs. G37 coupe... Depends which one weighs less... Most likely the sedan will weigh less.

The Sedans have ALWAYS weighed a little less than the Coupe, I don't expect that to change. As for which one being faster, don't know don't care.

a) You're mag-racing, which is lame.
b) You're comparing 0-60 times, which is lame.
c) You're trying to gauge the performance of a car that doesn't exist yet, which is VERY, VERY lame.

I'd like to know exactly what did they do differently to get the '08 G35 Engine rated at 306. I've always been curious.

And 0-60 is the STANDARD of how a performance car's acceleration is measured, COMMERCIALLY. Its on EVERY commercial, in EVERY Mag, etc.

0-60 is passe.

1/4-mile gives you a truer measure.

Truer measure of what?

On a regular basis, you are ALWAYS going to accelerate from a stand still (0-60....or 0-WHATEVER). How often is the AVERAGE person (not racer) going to accelerate up to 100MPH+ for at least 1/4 mile?

Honestly its about how fast your car accelerates to speed limit and how quickly you can accelerate on the highway while you are driving for a lane change (mid-range power) that I'm concerned about.

Good debate.

well how much more does the VQ37VHR weigh in comparision to the VQ35HR engine? That should give you a better estimation on which would be lighter.

Not really. The Coupe's doors have always been much heavier due to the necessary reinforcements.....that's always been one of the main reasons the Coupe has always been heavier than the Sedan. The G37 Sedan will no doubt gain some weight over the G35 but it will still weigh less than it's Coupe counterpart.
