Help : Tire Noise and Dealerships Opinion On my Falkens !!

Hi Everyone,

Just bought a 05 G35 COUPE from a dealer and he gave me brand new tires ( Falken FK 452 ('s) ), The front tire on the driver side makes a rubbing noise ( Like it is rubbing against something) but there is no phisical damage to the tire from rubbing ?. I looked it up on the internet and most people say that they get the noise after 10,000 miles on the new tires.

When I drove the car at the dealers place the old tires made the same noise and the dealer put in new tires and the noise was gone, but after a few days the Noise returned ( after I bought the car though ! )

I took it to INFINITI and the INFINITI Service guy charged me $150 to take a look at the tires and say that the pattern on the tires is "VERY AGGRESSIVE" and those tires are not recommended by INFINITI, But he agrees the tires are in good condition, My brake pads are good and the rotors are fine and there is nothing wrong with the car !!

My question is if the tires are "Very Aggressive" why dont I get the noise from both sides ( and why only front )??.

The car is still under warranty and I dont know what to do now ?, could there be anything else that I should get corrected

I would appreciate any help ....!!

PS: The car is currently with infiniti, I will get anything u guys advice me checked before I take the car from the dealer in the evening.

Just wondering, if you have larger than stock, they can rub on different things. You say it's on just one side? Did the dealer confirm the sound?

Yes, he says the repair guy could hear the sound and says it just the tires. But there is no cupping or tread wear on the tire ( looks brand new).

I hear it only on the driver side, I asked him why the sound comes from only one side ..... he said " its coming from only 1 side now but after few days it will come from both sides", he went on explaining that I shud use INFINITI recommended tires. ( $1600 bridgestone or michelins).

He called me in like 50 mins after I turned my car in , I am not sure he checked it properly?

And shouldnt the tires or the interior have rubbing marks if they are actually rubbing off the car ?? , I dont see any.

Before you do that, make sure that the alignment is good (only the toe-in on the front is adjustable, but get a 4 wheel alignment anyway to check for damage).

Yes, different tires make different noises. I have had three different kinds on mine and each sounded different. This is a noisy car, it has hard bushings and spring backings (especially on the "Sport" models). I just bought a Honda Civic Si, and it is loud too.

if you increase the size of the tires width or go with a harder or softer compound tire...you will get increases in noise coming thru to the cabin

basically your are adding more surface for the tire to roll on or the tire grips the surface differently

honestly...dealership tires are crap...theyre meant as an "all around" tire that gets good lifetime wear and has ok grip on the road (excluding the GTR)...tire upgrades do help a bit as far as drivability...but will also cause excess noise if theyre not OEM

i personally run only federal 595s for falken azenis 615s...both tires are very noisy because theyre a soft compound...much larger than stock...and have SUPER STIFF sidewalls

unless you are noticing excessive wear on the tires in a specific area (like on the inside of the tire)...i wouldnt worry too much about it

u may want to take the tires back and talk to whomever you got them from...tire may be defective

i could tell you if the sound is normal by riding in your car...but obviously ur not located in vegas =(

You are focused on the culprit being tires because they told you it was so. Based on your description of the noise and the fact that the noise was there with old tires and new, I'd be expanding my search up through the rest of the drivetrain. I'd also be doing it quickly if it was a car I'd just bought.

I have these tires on my 03 and they are VERY noisy, will definatly not be buying these again. Had a rear alignment done and that helped some.. as far as the scraping noise from the front end, no idea?? Luck..

Rotate the tires and see if the noise follows the tire/wheel. If it does, you know it's either the tire or the wheel. If it doesn't, it's something with the wheel/brake assembly.
