'05 G35 Bose + iPhone 3G + Garmin GPS

Just got a couple new toys -- a Garmin 770 GPS and an iPhone 3G v2.1 -- and want to install them in my '05 G35 Coupe w/ Bose & no factory nav system. I like a clean look (hate windshield mounts and wires dangling everywhere), so I plan to install the Garmin in the pocket above the climate controls, as mentioned here. Super-tidy, folds down out of site when not in use.

I had been planning to use the Garmin's built-in mp3 player and just not worry about interfacing the iPhone. But then I found Pandora, which basically turns the iPhone into a free satellite radio, customized to your preferences, and I'm thinking... oh yeah I GOTTA have that!

So I'm reading about the USA Spec iPod interface that everybody uses, and I run across this unfortunate tidbit:I'm thinking the iPhone battery isn't gonna last too long running Pandora, which constantly streams data over the 3G network. Is there ANY G35 interface for a 3G iPhone that also charges it?

Thanks all, esp to G35iPod.com (Ken Loh?) for putting this iPod installation guide together. I'm looking forward to the setup (oh how I hate CDs!) and will post pics when it's done.

Hello lordsludge-
Good luck with the install. I just purchased my 6mt a couple of weeks ago and, as with you, I decided to do a custom install of my Tomtom, since open wires and unsecure mounts just didn't cut it. Since my handheld was about the perfect dimensions for the ashtray location, I decided to dissect it and mount it there. It's discrete, easy to use and looks pretty clean. I have a full album of the install in my profile if you or anyone else is interested.

Will the iphone stream the pandora through the ipod jack at the bottom? Or does it only stream it to the headphone jack?

Might make a difference because i think the ipod kits are really only designed to interface with it to hear the internal MP3's, Unsure if it will stream live music through the interface as well

I checked out the photos in your profile, and that is a slick little install. How much time did it take you to do it? Also, what is the visibility like on the nav in that position? It seems like it would be a little bit low, maybe even blocked a bit by the shifter. Overall though it looks sick. I was thinking of doing the double din conversion, but this is definitely an option I would consider.

Thanks IP-G. I Actually havent had trouble viewing and accessing the screen, although it is lower than it sat before. Most of the pictures I took were with the shifter in first gear position, in which I can still fully view the screen. Between the gps speaker and the screen visibility, the location has worked pretty well for me. To be honest, I somewhat like the lower position more at night, since the light is not as much of a distraction to me. The install took me probably about ten hours, broken up over a couple of days, but if you're okay with soldering, are okay with modifying your gps and have access to a dremel, the mod is pretty straightforward. Good luck if you decide to try it!

I need this iphone interface. I have a huge amount of music on my iphone, but no way to listen to it while I'm driving.
