G35 been in Rear accident should I buy?

I've been looking for a g35 for my wife to us as a daily driver, and me to use on the weekend.

We found a nice deal on a 2004 at a dealer, it had a check engine light problem, they hooked it up to odb, and it was the fuel pump, which they said they will fix, so it is in the shop for now.

We put some money down on it to hold it, but nothing is official yet.

I got a carfax, and it shows that it was in an accident.

It says 2/04 from an automotive parts supplier, that parts requested to repair damage after an accident or other incident rear bumper assembly left side rear door assembly and left side quarter panel assembly.

Says nothing about frame/suspension. Also under the section of the car fax where it says frame damge/strucual damage it says None same with airbag deployment.

But in order to need the bumper quarter panel and door, i'm thinkin it had to be a pretty big hit.

What do you guys think? Also what are things i should look for to tell if their is frame damage, this is a unibody so i figure it would be hard to tell?

Should i just avoid this one all together?

sounds like too big of a hit if they needed to replace all of those parts.

kinda of a hit or miss, i just bought my 2004 g35x about 2 months ago, it has a rebuilt title, and so far ive had no problems that were caused from the accident, just new brake and a o2 sensor which the dealer replaced.

If it took that much damage, I'd avoid it. A fender bender where only the sacrificial crush elements were damaged would be a definite buy, but yours sounds like it had frame damage. Replacing the rear quarter panel requires cutting off the old one and welding on a new one - I wouldn't trust welded structural elements unless I knew the guy doing the welding.

Take a look at the car for yourself and decide how well the repair was done.

If anything structural was done, I'd pass personally. But if everything cosmetic wise was fixed and fitted correctly, go for it.

No reason to buy unless you know for sure it was just a cosmetic hit (like a rear bumper cover replaced).

well i took another look at it, and they put it up on the lift for me. I can't tell/see that a repair was made at all, everything looks good, and original.

The car fax never had a reported accident, only that their were parts ordered from a wholesaler for the car.

The one car guy i know said that sometimes they order parts, and give what ever vin number they have handy, so the parts may of been for a different car, at least i hope so.

So we pulled the trigger, and my wife has a new car, and i have a new weekend toy.

I say walk away too and invest that money into a different car - a non-accident vehicle.

You can't rely on carfax too heavily. There have been cases where cars are in major accidents and it never appears on the carfax. It also never tells the full story.

I would walk away personally. Plenty of G35s out there
