Gary
Wooden boards only work if you have to get up a ramp...

Look for a shop where lifts aren't used for everything. Oil changes, exhaust work and other mechanical operations are performed from a "manhole" the size of a closet beneath the car. You drive the car in with guard rails to make sure you're straight. Most Wal-Marts have them (not that you'd go there) and some shops will also.

Not sure about you guys, but my car is a bit too low for most of those guard rails...

Impossible! You don't go up a ramp, you simply drive into the shop on a flat surface that's at the identical height as the street or road you went into the shop. The guard rails just keep you from falling into the open pit. Just imagine going into an automatic car wash with the rails on both sides to keep you from straying to far to either side. But instead of the car being washed, the mechanic goes into an open pit beneath the car and does his work--- ergo, no lifting of the car or needing to go on ramps.

All this does raise an important question.... is this mod worth it if you can't get your car repaired even for the simplest work???

I have access to a lift almost anytime I need it... All I need to do is lift the rear to get the arms underneath...

Some carwashes have guard rails too, and my car is way too low for those too... So it's strictly hand wash for my car, which isn't a bad thing.

Now I get it. OK, here's my solution.... it comes from experience with low riders and muscle cars-- use a graded fulcrum set-up where you raise your car 1/2 inch at a time using 4 fulcrums. Each one progressively raises the car's rear end about .5 inches using thicker wood blocks as the fulcrum and a steel bar with a soft towel attached to keep it from damaging your car. It will take about 5-8 minutes per side with some help. Once it reaches height, stick the ramps or 4X4X6 blocks beneath the body at the strongest supporting points. The ramps should slide beneath the car at this point.

I have had a car that was too low to even fit over the gaurd rail of a pit of jiffy lube. IIRC it was this one.

but yea, there was no jiffy lube or anyshop that could do my oil bc it would not fit over the gaurd rails the were next to the pit.

Your y-pipe can also be installed by a shop with a pit. No lifting necessary.
