Possible Future Buyer.. opinions appreciated

Hey everyone - Been lurking and researching for sometime now and am looking at getting a 'new' car come spring time. If I do pull the trigger it will be on a 05/06 6mt Coupe.

Now I am going to be honest, even though there is a TSB for the OC issue it makes me nervous. I don't want to get something knowing I am going to have to put extra time/effort and dealership visits into a common problem especially something as serious as this. Kind of takes the fun out of getting a new car. Negative things always seem to stand out more than positive things so here is my question to the G35driver masses: Is it REALLY that bad?

It's fair to say that the majority of the folks on the site are more involved and interested in their cars than your average Joe who just buys the car and drives it. They could be fine, or they may have the issue as well and not even know about it. Are we talking about 8 in 10 cars having the issue? Do you personally have it?

Also some bad stories of clutches going I've read about - This the norm? Or most likely someone who you bought your off lease from was incapable of operating the 3rd pedal?

Tire wear has also been mentioned on occasion, is this on a stock setup or on someone running coilovers dumped 2.5"?

This community seems to have a good amount of knowledge within, so hoping to get some real feedback!

Thanks all!

The squeaky wheel always gets the grease. Those who have it will speak up, but the vast majority don't have a problem. I have 60k and 2.5 years, hard driving, cold winter starts, etc and not a drop. Just show her some love and she'll treat you right.

go to any forums and everybody seems to complain about their cars...it's better to know up front what you "might" deal with later on down the road...in general these cars are fun and reliable and IMO, one of the easier cars to work on..

Easier as compared to what? I used to have a Prelude and had trouble working in the engine bay because of tight fits. I love currently working on my Grand National in comparison, but friends who used to have big V8 hate working on that in comparison. So I guess it's all relative.

If they are easy to work on that's a big bonus as I do most work myself.

Thanks for the responses so far, keep them coming!

Derek

OC: Is is there? Yes. Is it that common? No.

Tire wear is usually the result of lowering springs, or the fact that the G is the first performance car for many members here. RE050A's are high performance tires, and are not made to last a super long time. Most members do not exploit the performance, but still suffer from the short tread life.

easier meaning everything is held with a few screws, rivets or clips...for instance, taking off the interior door panel can be done in less than 5 min with three screws and couple of clips....try that on a bmw or mercedes

I'm in the same boat...looking for an '05 MT Coupe. As far as the oil consumption issue goes, it seems that if your car does this and fails Infiniti's consumption test, you must produce oil change records to replace the engine under warranty. What if I buy a car that is still under warranty, but the previous owner(s) changed the oil themselves? I will most likely buy from a (non-Infiniti) dealership, so simply asking the previous owner(s) for receipts cannot happen and the car will not be "Infiniti certified" or whatever garbage wording factory used dealers use.
