California Legal Window Tints - Reno People Chime In!

Hey all!

I need to get the G-Ride tinted up and because I will be moving to California soon (SanDiego) I want to make sure they tints are Cali legal.

35% up front? Nothing on the windshield?

Also anyone in Reno Nevada have a shop recommendation?

THANKS!

In CA it is illegal to use ANY after market tint on the front driver/passenger/windshield.

It is only legal to tint the back passenger seats and the rear window.. I got pulled over 2 weeks ago by some idiot CHP who wanted to hassle me about this.. and I didn't even have that dark of tint.

Regardless of how light your tint is, you can't really complain because you know it is illegal to tint your front windows, yet you do it anyways. Believe me, I feel that there are much better things to do other than regulating the window tint law, but at the end of the day, I know I have 20% tint and its illegal. Whenever I get busted, I don't complain.

As for the OP, it is illegal to have tint on the front windows and the windshield.

Alright well, that sucks *****.

I hear a lot about people getting ticketed in the So-Cal area for tint, so I guess I better not risk it. Then again...maybe I will, just get something super light on the front....

Cali law is BS!

We're aware of what the law states that doesn't mean we obey!

Marlin wasn't complaining, just stating a fact "He got hassled by the CHP for tint!" This is a game we play, what % can you tint your windows without being pulled over. I'm at 17 years with 35% tint and haven't been stopped probably because law enforcement can see inside my car. If I do get a ticket for tint/front plate you won't hear me complain or whine cause I've been damn lucky....

San Diego has the best climate on the west coast, you're lucky. You could tint your back window 20% (legal) and either leave the drivers/passangers windows alone or do 35% and take a chance like the rest of us....leave your sunroof shade open to allow more light in....safer that way.

I barely got my car 3 weeks ago and it came with tint installed. Personally, I would have went with darker tint..

Anyways, I didn't call the cop an idiot because he caught me, but because of how he was acting and how he got mad when I corrected a statement he made. He didn't even give me a ticket, but said for me to fix it and that "he'll be in touch with me" even though the idiot didn't leave me anything to show him in the future that I removed my tint.

In Mn we can only have 50% all around (on every window, get that, trucks and suvs can have dark back windows but cars cant.)

Consider yourself lucky on that.

Thanks bud, cant wait to get down there and start living the dream! haha

I think I will rock the 35% and keep my NV registration for as long as possible that way the first time I get hassled I can claim ignorance.

there is certain paperwork you can fill out and have a eye doctor sign off on to give you a pass to have Illegal tint on your car. So if you have an astigimatism, you may want to check into that so you dont have to worry about a ticket if you have the illegal tint.

HAHA - that's awesome! Wonder if a Nevada doctor can sign off on it. Probably have to be registered in Cali to start with as well.... Thanks for the info.
