What a scary feeling!!

got this from another forum i go on...pretty scary R.I.P to the ppl in that car

"A police officer in a new Lexus IS makes a 911 call describing what is happening to him. His accelerator pedal was stuck to the floor, and the brakes were not working. He ended up crashing and killing all four people in the car.

RFD discussion where I found out about the issue, including the recording of the 911 call:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...d.php?t=791233

Here's a site that deals with some of the reports:
http://autocoverup.com/#STS=fzyjhs1x.94x

Pretty nasty if there really is a problem with the fly-by-wire system in the new Lexus IS and Prius..."

Why didn't he just shift the car into neutral? It may rev the **** out of the engine to blow it up but at least he'd live.

Yea, also you can use the parking brake but you need to apply it slowly. Dont know if that would work heard it on burn notice haha. Also couldn't you just turn of the engine?

i want to see the autopsy... what was the driver on for panicking so quickly with doing any of the things you guys mentioned. CH patrolmen are required to pass a driving test.. I guess this wasnt on the test.

problem is with people double stacking floor mats and unintentionally having the floor mats slide onto the accelerator pedal and having it get stuck. theres either one clip and two clips that hold the mat into place but when stacked, the mats are too thick for the clip to properly hold them in place. people stack thick Lexus all-weather floor mats ON TOP of the factory carpeted mats all the time. The all weather mats clearly state not to stack them on top of any other pre-existing mat.

put the car in neutral & turn off the engine are the most logical thoughts that come to mine especially when your family's safety is on the line. 911 operator should have told them to do so if the driver was in a panic.
