I have an '04 G35x that needs a front driveshaft. Dealerships quotes me $800 for the part and $200 labor. Does this sound right?? I did a quick search and found one on eBay for like $125 plus $35 shipping.. If anyone knows a reliable place to buy just the front driveshaft on an 2004 AWD G35 please let me know. Thanks.

Gotta ask, "Why do you need a new driveshaft?" Nation wide are shops that specialize in driveshafts and their repair. Rather than taking a chance on one from eBay find a driveshaft repair shop in your area, use your Google!

I'd be cautious getting a cheap aftermarket drive shaft. Not that it will break (although it might), but the torque specs on an aftermarket may not be correct. And by torque I mean the rotational forces placed on it by the transmission. It's likely to have more flex than an OEM shaft (shaft flex, ouch!), and that could put unwanted stress on the tranny and pumpkin. Find a used OEM instead.
And shouldn't that be covered under the drivetrain warranty? Or are you over 70K miles?

That's the price they charge. I was still covered under warranty when I got my new one

The most common symptom is a pronounced clicking sound. This is most noticeable when the vehicle is moving slowly while making a sharp turn, such as pulling into a parking space in a parking lot.Originally Posted by socalg35x

A torn boot allows lubricant to leak out (that's bad) and dirty mud-puddle water to get in (that's even worse). This will cause a constant velocity joint to fail.

OP is referring to the drive shaft, not the axles.......DanielOriginally Posted by danielbmartin

MJAldridge6 has an AWD G35 and I interpret "front driveshaft" to mean the axle halfshaft. Is this not right? Maybe I conflated two or more questions and need another cup of coffee!Originally Posted by MJAldridge6 View Post

He's not talking about the CV Axle Shaft on the passenger side. I too have to replace this part. My front driveshaft needs to be replaced soon, been driving on it for the last 8 months cuz of some clicking noise. I just found out exactly that it is the front driveshaft that needs to be replaced. It's connected to our transmission. I'm going to get it checked out by a specialist next Thursday! Hopefully it's just the u-joint and not the actual shaft. If it is, like on a few of the posts oem is definitely better! Don't mistake an aftermarket shaft for an oem. It will benefit you later on down the line. I've heard due to the aftermarket shaft it causes a headache for some. Like for example someone had replaced it with an after market 1. 3 months later he was back & the cycle went 2 more times. These companies that provide the aftermarket shaft give out 1 yr limited warranties as well as extended warranties. So not worth the buck to keep going through the hassle of changing it out. If anything, in an earlier post there are driveshaft companies that will rebuild it n such but keep in mind that the driveshaft has to unbolt from the spline. Hope this helps!Originally Posted by danielbmartin
