Radiator fan

Hey guys I just picked up a 2005 coupe m/t and driving it I notice that the radiator fan is on while I drove most of the time 80% of the time, usually it should be on when idling for long periods but during driving? seems weird? anything I can check out or is this normal for G's? Thanks.

Its funny you ask. I got a letter from from infiniti today, informing me that some (bout 10%) of radiator fans burn up in 04-07 models. This is not your problem, obviously, but i figured i would let you know that there will probably be a recall issued for this if yours burns up also.

As far as your problem goes, i think them running more often than other cars is normal.

OP, you need to check your coolant level or find an OBDII reader to monitor your coolant temps. Anything over 208F will trigger your fans to turn on...you really shouldn't be over that temp for very long once your fans turn on.

A cheap way to see if you have enough coolant is to 1) check the level of coolant in your overflow, or 2) see if you get HOT air from the heater shortly after turning on the car when its cold. Variation/no coolant in the overflow when car is cold or no hot air from the heater when the car is cold usually means you have an air pocket. Air pockets can cause your car to run hotter than it should.

Air will make the car run a little hotter than normal, just keep an eye on it. Read the coolant replacement procedure in the service manual and look at the procedure to remove air from the system. You may just want to go ahead and flush the entire coolant system while you at it.
