2004 Coupe Shutting down randomly while driving
I have a 2004 Auto Coupe with about 85k miles on it. Have been doing all standard maintenance and have not had any problems until now...
Basically, I'll be driving and the car pretty much shuts down and I can't give it any more gas. I'll pull over to the side of the road and turn it back on without a problem. It has happened twice.
The 1st time it happened, the Check Engine light stayed illuminated on restart and is still lit. It has since happened a second time 2 weeks later. Any ideas?
I have done no Engine Mods to the car.
Doing a search it seems people suggest cleaning the throttle body? But a lot of these guys have done engine mods and are blaming it on that... Should I try this?
Doing a search on google I'm coming up with ppl saying its the cam sensor? But no definitive answer.
Any other suggestions or I should I suck it up and take it to the dealer? (Our of Warranty)...
Thanks

Try doing the throttle body cleaning and do the MAF sensor too while you're at it.
If those fail, cam sensor sounds sorta likely, but usually that doesn't start right back up, at least it didn't in my old Dodge Avenger when it went out on me.

Thanks, will give it a shot..
I thought the problem would just go away (like an idiot).. however, I was driving on the Williamsburg bridge today (nyc) and my car decided to do it again. Luckily, was in heavy traffic. Only seems to be happening at low speeds or when I'm at a stop light.

That used to happen to me in my old buick, scary feeling, in the middle of the road, eventually it never turned back on, I got tired of so many repairs, junked it and got the G. Happy ending.
I have a couple ideas from past experiences. First off, i'm no where near an expert i just wanted to share some input here.
First thought, I experienced something similar in regards to engine shutting but that was in park and shortly after start-up. I found that the recent K&N CAI upgrade was a huge airflow difference and I think the MAF took a few turn-overs to adjust OR there may have been excess filter oil that got sucked into the intake and may have lightly hit the MAF sensor causing this issue. either way, after start-ups/ dying, (repeat) later the car idled nicely and no more issues.
Second thought, I had a car years ago that had a "donut" gasket before the CAT in the exhaust that blew over and over, each time causing the car to just up and die randomly while driving. It died because of lack of back pressure due to the leak at the donut gasket. I later found out the donut kept blowing because of a bad CAT, it had basically melted and caused major flow blockage and I ended up replaceing the CAT too. That solved the problem.
I wish you luck!

Check your compression. That was the problem on my old integra. I blew a gasket and compression was less then 60% and at lights or if i leave it in neutral the car dies out. But im glad it happened since it got me to buy my g :]
will give the fuel filter a shot (i feel like this is what it is)..
i don't have any engine mods, completely bone stock.
