Well if you can get up to 20k, why not get a newer g35?

I would consider that just MAYBE if it is reliable. The difference between 15 and 20 is not that much to me, it's something I would consider...maybe.

Reliable though? I don't know...
I really really don't want to drive a Camry or Accord. Something with ***** in the body.
20k for sure, not 15 though.

Because it's not going to drive to 250k without continual repairs. That makes me not attracted to it. Inefficiency. Poor design. Poor reliability testing.
If only Toyota still made the Supra (stateside).

Ok, well you should probably get off a forum specifically for g35's then.

Maybe I just need to suck it up and realize I'm going to have to pay to drive something I enjoy.

I could get an older g35 to offset the repair cost and time involved maintaining it. Eh.
Why can't someone make a reliable car worth driving that looks fun.

Or, you can just get a G35 and maybe luck out and not have any of the major problems.. Good luck with that.

Window Motor, Door lock mechanism:

-----

I had a S2k and Integra before the G. Integra hit 200k. Never had to replace a door lock mechanism, window motor or valve cover/sparkplug gasket.

The only thing I had to replace was the clutch/flywheel, and timing belt, and other belts at 150k. That was it.

Everything else was just simple stuff like radiator flush. I replaced the headgasket at 180k. Even then, it was still good. Wasn't blown or showing any sign of wear/tear.

------

So, if you're going to get this car, expect tons of money being spent on maintenance and gas. Don't forget insurance and other BS. I bought my car new, so the registration fee was $380 bones.
Jabber-- is that $700 with maintenance or is that me doing it myself-- ie how much is the part?
Window, door lock mechanism, I can replace that yeah?

What other things could I expect and how much would the parts be (and how hard are they to do yourself), or is that mainly it?

Piddly maintenance I would be OK with (every 70k is not horrible, as long as it's not random stuff breaking) if I know it's coming.

I googled for IS250 stuff and that's out the window now; CR only gives it average reliability for major engine problems; and the manuals have serious flywheel and clutch problems. Further, the replacement part is $2700-3200 OEM. Yikes! Who wants to drive an automatic...

My last try at this is accepting there will be routine repairs I will have to make. How many would I not see coming, and what would those things be that break?

Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Just for some balance, I have 120,000 miles on my 2004.5, only repairs I have had to make on the engine so far have been the belts (one shredded at about 60,000) and the power steering hose. I have replaced the spark plugs once. Engine has zero leaks and burns about 1/4 QT in 3000 miles. this motor sees 6000+ rpm almost daily.
