Whats the common problem with G35 2004
#46
Damn hmm.. alot of small, but pricey issues.. the seat adjustment motor stopped working, but I ended up fixing that on my own..
*gas cap actuator went out and is still out. Never got around to getting another one. I might maybe eventually lol..
*The stock Bose headunit went out at around 107k or so.
*Replaced the compression rod bushings with SPCs and whiteline LCA bushings
*Catalytic converters just died and getting some used ones installed in within a week or so
So far that's about it. I hope I don't run into more issues anytime soon. Probably have to do a partial transmission fluid flush really soon

yes it was, still good though..
'04 AT Sedan owner here, bought it at 58K miles, now have 135K miles...
No expensive problems... been doing all the work myself, which is impressive considering i don't know much about cars
- Replaced stock stereo with aftermarket pioneer headunit and cadence speakers and amps at 60K
- Changed to K&N filter at first oil change at 61K
- Replaced battery to Duralast red-top around 76k
- HID replacements around 90K (metrorestyling.com, 2 bulbs under $40 total, recommend 4300k or 6000k for good white, anything beyond 6000k looks blueish)
- Replaced spark plugs and serpentine belts, in-cabin air filter at 100K
- Routine maintenance on brake pads as necessary (not often, only done twice in 70K miles driven)
- Oil change every 3K miles
- Car stalled while going into manual shift at 115K, couldn't get the shifter to move, couldn't pull the key out... unbolted shifter and reseated (thank you g35driver.com!)
- Oil hose and gasket replaced at 128k (done by mechanic to fix oil leak)
- Thermostat replaced, coolant flushed at 130K miles (car was overheating for a day, did this myself)
Existing issues
- Car makes a popping noise sometimes when turning, I think it's the "compression arm" according to another thread of the same issue (04 sedan)
- TPMS is malfunctioning, pressure light comes on at random after a tire swap at wal-mart out of town... was riding on a partial flat and didn't realize... TPMS sensor may be screwed up, consequently
- my paint is rock chipped to hell on the front of my hood (30-40 chips)... contemplating a hood swap or fixing it myself... may be a good time to teach myself how to paint a part... also paint issue on front and rear bumpers (front bumper got dented, rear bumper got scratched...) rear-passenger door needs to be body-fixed (some ******* hit it with his door and folded it over the hinge)
No other existing mechanical issues, never had electrical issues (other than a blown fuse here or there). Still wondering when the 2000W of power from my amps will burn out my alternator. Damn thing appears to be built like a tank.
Things I wish I could fix:
- New floor mats in the front (they're both worn )
- New carpet (driver's side carpet is torn under the floor mat)
- New trunk carpet (I had a battery back there and forgot.. it fell over and leaked and now the carpet is ruined)
My car's shown no performance-based signs of aging, I still get great gas mileage (~20 town / ~28 hwy @ 65MPH w/ no AC and windows cracked) and have only needed it mechanic'd once (to find and fix the recent oil leak... ~$300, $120 in parts, ~3 hours labor, not at stealership).
I really hope my car continues lasts to 200K and beyond x] ... the poor thing, though, i drive it like it's stolen

<zombie thread>
2004g35x:
...bought at 31K
~70k - satellite antenna died
~85k I replaced the rear pads/rotors as "apparently" they were due before the fronts.
~90K and 96K new HID bulbs (maintenance)
~95K throttle position sensor (it happens)
~100k I replaced the right rear caliper (and sadly new pads/rotors, again...)
~120K I replaced the left rear caliper (and sadly new pads/rotors again!!!)
(arg - I live in Maryland - not the saltflats)
...at the same time I had my front rotors checked (now at 120K miles) and were still within spec, at my friend's shop - not the dealer. Sad that Annapolis Sheety Infinti couldn't put grease on their action...
Other than that nonsense (I blame this one dealer, not the car)... It runs like a champ
Nothing but maintenance for a couple years.
ps: I change the oil at 5K, if I run a bit late (1k ish) it starts to wear a bit ~ half Quart now at 147K...
