Thinking about trading the G for a(nother) station wagon. Would you?
Obviously most of the people here have little to no appreciation for Dodge vehicles, but I most certainly do. My other car is a fairly well-modded Magnum R/T with heads/cam/headers/SRT wheels, custom engine bay stuff, exhaust, intake and other stuff. Dynos roughly 370 RWHP. It's my weekend/show car and I don't drive it very much but I'd never sell it. It's large, fast as hell, reliable as no other car I've ever had and looks like nothing else on the road (not made anymore either)
I got the G35x three months ago and by all accounts it's an awesome car in its own right. You all know what's good and bad about it - not much bad at all. A perfect daily driver and extremely presentable, good looking, fairly quick, sounds good...it's a nice car, no doubt.
But, I love the LX model cars and while I enjoy the G, I'm thinking about either trading it or selling it. I don't "love it", and if I'm going to be driving something for the next four years every day, I want to like it more.
So I'm now working on possibly trading it for another Dodge Magnum R/T. Also a 2005 like my other one, but this is modded WAY more than mine. 392 (6.4L) stroker, long tubes, shaker hood, full exhaust, also has SRT wheels, halos in headlights and fogs, Quaife limited slip diff, upgraded axles, KWv2 suspension, Hotchkis swaybars front and back, twin air intake, Wilwood big brake kit, 3200 stall converter, electronic cut outs (nascar loud on command), Alpine/JL/Kappa sound system upgrades and probably something I'm forgetting - the thing is a total beast and produces 455 RWHP and 480 RWHP yet gets 22 mpg highway. I need to put cats on the car as the cats were gutted and the cutouts are leaking but no biggie. On the east coast in our awesome DA, it'll probably run high 11s. Currently running low 12s in Cali in full street trim.
55000 miles on car, 25000 miles on stroker.
Straight up trade for 2006 G35x. Lakeshore blue, stone interior. Premium package 55000 miles, 100% stock. Perfect mechanical condition.
Both cars have clean titles, no accidents and the other car also has all the nice option packages.
It's an interesting idea - near-mint 2006 G35X for extremely modded 2005 Magnum R/T with a least $30000 in mods/labor spent on it.
Hmm....

One of my co workers drives a hella modded magnum on bags and 22s and **** and as cool as the car is. It's **** on gas (his is a 3.5)
That's a pretty solid deal seeing as the G is only worth about $15,000 to $20,000 and the magnum has that alone in parts.

Trades like that always make me suspicious. When it seems like you are getting a good deal, the opposite may be true.
Sometimes trading a modded car for a stock car is a way of picking up someone's project....and who is to say it isn't a basket case. I know of a recent trade on a local forum where someone traded a stock 1999 cobra for a modded 500hp mustang...and the engine crapper the bed a few months later to to crappy parts used.
If you want a magnum go for it. I love those wagons....I am just not a fan of trading cars. In a trade, someone always comes out on the better end of the deal...it's never even

I would do it if I were in that position. But then I would probably end up selling my other magnum for something else, either for a fuel saver or a pickup/suv that can tow the beastly magnum.

Eh not a fan plus it's way way out of the price range we're talking here.
Yeah the Nj winters are a concern - except for already knowing how a 400+ Magnum RWD acts in the winter on Blizzaks. It does very well and is quite good in snow, so that's not my biggest concern.
It's definitely true about one possibly getting a "project", except in this case I'm familiar with the guy who built the engine and the history of this car is very well known in the Magnum community and the owner is highly respected, and has bene upfront with what's good and bad about it. I know I'm not getting a car that's in as good shape as my G35x, but I know the LX cars well and mine has been trouble fee for 2.5 years, even after doing engine work and other things to it. Worst case scenario the engine takes a crap, but I'm the rare position of knowing one of the top three 3rd gen Hemi engine builders in the country so any and all parts are easily accessible to me should anything happen (knock on wood). I am the one who initiated the trade idea, so it's not like someone called me up and said "hey look what I have in trade". All the parts on the Magnum are tier 1 brand names - no knock off crap so that portion is good as well.
It'll use more gas, be louder and not have as nice of an interior, no sunroof, no intelligent key etc, but you cannot beat the feeling of loading up the car with tons of stuff at Home Depot and being able to dust nearly everything on the road on the way back home lol. We're talking 540 crank HP, roughly 100 more than my other Magnum which is certainly no slouch.
Decisions, decisions.

Yeah that's the smart way of looking at it for sure, but in that case I should just sell the G35x outright and buy a used fuel saving car and pocket the change.
