Wheel thumping sound...any ideas?

Hi,
I have a 2005 G35 coupe 6mt with about 70,000 miles on it. I’ve started to get a thumping sound, like a tire flat spot that goes with the speed of the car. I just got new tires, balance & align and the sound is still there. It gets louder when I corner the car. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Things that cause thumping sounds and get worse when cornering:

- Bad wheel bearings (those these usually make a whining sound). Jack up each wheel, grab it firmly, and try give it a few strong tugs in various directions, any play means bearings, or suspension, is loose.

- CV joints. Jack up your rear wheels, feel around on the rubber covers surrounding the axle CV joints. If any of the rubber boots are broken and you can feel the grease inside with your finger, or even worse, if you can feel sand or it's bone dry, you've probably worn out the CV joint.

Less likely:
- Warped, rubbing brake rotor
- Crooked wheel

Are you running stock wheels? I had the same issue after I got new tires installed on my volk racing wheels. Come to find out the shop had put two hub rings on the one wheel. After removing one, noise went away. Good luck bro.

Like what Marcinr was saying. Jack the car up and wiggle the wheel if its loose it could also be your wheel hub.

Glad it worked out ok. Wheel bearings are a wear item an this does occasionally happen, even if it wasn't covered by warranty, this is an easy repair and a relatively inexpensive part.

Issue solved, I would have suspected a tire first. On a previous Nissan I had a tire tread break and it was making the thumping noise you described. Glad you found out what it was got it fixed for freeeeeeeeee....

Just started happening to me this morning. How much did the dealership charge you? I have a warranty but not sure if that's covered.

Hmm.. I painted my wheels not too long ago, I did notice some shake around 70mph+ but it wasn't making the noise it is now. It sounds as if I have a flat tire but all my tires are fine. I will have to make sure they are all tight before I drive home today.
