Smile Please help me decide if the IPL is for me.

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum. I've been considering a G37 for about a year or so now. My current car is a 2009 Honda Civic Si coupe which I got in December of 08. The G series caught my eye and I've just recently been doing some actual research into the vehicle line to see whether or not it's really for me. Obviously I intend to test drive the 2011 before I think about purchasing, but I'd like to tap folks like Globalac2009 (congratulations!) for some first impressions. Regarding other comments, I appreciate all constructive feedback.

A few initial concerns/thoughts:

Navigation Package/handsfree package
I was very happy with the execution on the Civic except for a few relatively minor complaints. First, the navigation will often recalculate if I miss a turn or make a wrong one (either intentionally or unintenionally) and then give me a relatively short amount of time to make an adjustment. What I mean is, it doesn't seem to take my speed and/or the manuevers it's asking me to do into account when it wants me to make a sudden adjustment. So to be safe, oftentimes I'll skip that turn as well and can sometimes end up having it give me five or six unsafe commands in a row. Does the G series give a reasonable amount of time for adjustments after recalculating routes?
The Bluetooth doesn't pass caller ID info from my phone to the display. I understand that this may have been omitted intentionally as a safety concern, but I end up glancing down at my phone sitting in the center console which I consider to be a much more unsafe practice. Yes I realize I should stop doing that, but I'll wait until I get in a big accident to change my ways. Anyway, does caller ID info display on the navigation?

Regarding the stereo system
I've read that it can import songs from CDs. Does this only work with "normal" (commercially written, redhat format CDs you buy at Best Buy's music section) or can I bring my MP3/WMA collection with me?
Do WMAs play normally as well, or just MP3s?
Can the system read ID3 tags and does it display long artist/song title names sufficiently or are they cut off most of the time?
How hard is it to upgrade the hard drive? 9.3GB is a decent size for just music files, but when my GF brings her collection onboard, that's going to get eaten up pretty quickly.
My Civic can't organize at all other than alphabetically by filename. I'm forced to use MP3 CDs that have folders labelled #-Z. How difficult is it to browse through a large collection of music with the factory stereo/navigation interface?

I've read that the backseats don't fold down for additional trunk space. Is that still the case for current models?

The Civic's moonroof is (IMO) large and I'm very pleased with it. It also has three positions: closed, cracked-open from the back and fully open. Does anyone have the dimensions on the moonroof for the G series and can confirm whether or not it has similar functionality?

I love my Civic and I intend to keep her for a long time (maybe pass to a kid someday if she survives that long), but I'm now interested in something more powerful as well as more comfortable.

Thanks in advance.

Just so I'm clear, I meant either of them.

from your post you seem very content with the civic and its no where close to old or ready to kick the bucket. i understand if you were looking for another car to drive around and have your civic as your DD, but then why not get something better than an infiniti?

another thing is you might want to try the g37 forums since you said you were planning on gettin an IPL or a G37

But here is my 2cents i really dont think the IPL is really worth the extra bucks you could just get a G37 and use the money you saved to buy mods that will out perform the IPL, but dont get me wrong the seats, extra ponies, interior, and wheels are all nice tho just not my cup of tea.

Not worth it. Get a regular G37. For 50k, I rather get a fully loaded IS350.

everything
probably get better advice on a G37 forum.....

myg37.com

Buy a loaded G and use the money you saved instead of buying the IPL to modify it to your liking

A lot of your questions will be answered on your test drive. I'd pass on the IPL. Actually, I'd pass on all G37's and get an M3.

Ipl doesn't cost much more than a loaded coupe. With that said, I think the used the extra money to ugly it up. The most recent test shows that it's slower than the g37s in all aspects.

IPL means INFINITI Performance Line.
The first car of that line is a G37 Coupe.
