Why is it that our V6s make so much power compared to the Audi A8L with it's V8? I don't get it, should not a V8 make so much more power than our V6s? What is the magic in the engine design...or is it just that the A8L sucks?

 

Well, now it has more then that. Maybe they were just starting to get good.

 

never understood audis 4.2 engine.
That engine was in the s4 too, which made the car slow as 1st gen g35s.
a6 4.2 biggest in a6, a8 4.2, and same engine came in the s5's...
Honestly if ur spending 50-60+ on a car, I think u deserve more zoom zoom effect from s5....

In the previous gen S4s and 4.2L A6s,that engine was rated at 340p, in the S5 it's rated at 354hp. In the RS4, that engine makes 420hp. And the S4 is faster than the G35, but it's much more than that. The power band on that engine is amazing, the only thing that sucks is the terrible gas mileage.

 

Can I exchange my power band for one of those?

 

Can you explain why asking why a V8 engine only produces 30 more horsepower than a V6 is worthless? I mean V8 engines are typically found on really high performance cars and they drink a lot of gas and the cars will cost a lot more usually. With that in mind a 30HP gain seems a bit strange don't you think?

So I take it you are some kind of mechanical genius who knows why this V8 is so close to our power? If so, why not enlighten us rather than make a statement you can't back up.

Actually, the S2k makes the most hp per liter. And it's only an inline 4. Also gets great MPG, you can redline it all day w/o burning a drop of oil.

Great car for those that enjoy driving.

Chicken before the egg. Is the V8 weak or is our V6 just really powerful for a V6? I think it's I time I learned a bit more about what makes one V6/V8 much more powerful than or weaker than another engine of the same type. That car was around $70k with 330HP and a new G37 coupe I think is $40k and almost as many horses. Now granted it has a much better interior and the NAV SEEMS more modern than 2007 G(even though it's over 5 years old.) Considering you are not getting Benz/BMW name recognition(if you care about that), I wonder what you are paying at least $30k more for.

Did some checking to see if it's because of advancements in engine technology since 2004, and I now find that perhaps the G was in fact powerful for it's time since in 2004 we were only about 50HP away. Wonder when we will see a 400HP G!?
