^^ That.

The speculation is key. "I speculate that the earthquake in Japan will make gas more needed" Gas prices rise. OR "I suspect oil will be more expensive next month" It is.

I agree whole heartidly. The comodities market is the cause.

I always pump 91 and still do but my car is my weekend car. I use the cheapest on my daily Honda civic.

Although, I have been thinking of getting a used motorcycle so save a little more on gas....

40 cents here (10 cents/litre and that's for 91). As mentioned before, I am satisfied to follow the advice in my owner's manual rather than yours, no offense.

Well, I filled up with 87 this time and my car seems to be making the chattering noise under acceleration more than ever. From what I've read, this sound is pretty common in 1st gen G35's, but there seems to be no consensus on whether it is detonation or just a loud valvetrain.

I'll switch back to premium on the next tank and see if I notice any difference.

I am pretty sure that the Holy and Sacred Owner's Manual mentions that this noise can be normal under acceleration even with premium fuel....but I don't know which chapter or verse and may be completely mistaken.

That's interesting if true. I would never consider any sound like that to be normal.

Mine did do it with premium fuel, it just seems like it's doing it more now. That may just be my imagination though.

I have noticed it, even with premium, but only under acceleration, with the window down and something like a wall or fence to bounce the sound back. I have never noticed it in the cabin with the windows rolled up.

I'll try to look in the manual tonight and see if I can find that reference.....it might just be all in my head.

Yep. Don't drive my G that much anymore though, so not a biggie.

What is a biggie is the price of diesel. YIKES. I have a 35 gallon tank in my truck and that's an eye opener at the pump. $100+ per fill up. The good news is I only fill her up like every six weeks or so.. LOL..

Daily is a Scion that gets 33 MPG no matter how you drive her. Love that car.

I use premium, but there's a regular poster over on the NICO forums who uses regular exclusively, and keeps his updated mpg in his sig. '06 G35, currently getting 24.39mpg. 135K on the car.

I use premium (30 cents x 15 gallons = not worth taking a chance)

I have not filled up with premium since I started this thread or since prices went up for that matter.

My last three tanks have given 25, 26 and 27 mpg. I'm using no name 89 octane gas (up to 10% etoh) purchased from a dirty little station in the country.

My mileage probably has nothing to do with the gasoline I'm using. It has everything to do with the fact that this is 90% highway and 10% city, driving fairly sanely most of the time.

But still, 27 mpg in an 06 6MT coupe with 82K miles on it. I'm amazed.

It gets about 23 mpg around town.

So yesterday my local newspaper had an article called "Stop the ethanol scam." http://www.roanoke.com/editorials/commentary/wb/280463
Some of the things mentioned in this article is how you can lose up to 4 mpg with 10% ethanol. Also the oil companies get .45 per gallon for mixing ethanol into our fuel supply, on top of that the oil companies jack prices for ethanol is more expensive. They are in a win win situation here. Then there was another article talking about the cost of cotton going from an average of .60 per pound over the last decade to $2.33 per pound. There is a cotton shortage and the largest american cotton producer (Texas) is giving up some of the cotton land to grow corn and soy beans for production of ethanol. WTF? Now we should also expect to see at least a 10% price increase in all things cotton. WOW the government sure does know how to make us more poor and get themselves rich.
