Cheap easy MOD.
Cheap easy MOD.
Hey guys thought I shine in on a cheap or free mod. I waited until now.. had to make sure no problems occur with this mod. We are always looking into improving driving feel with our cars and this mod seemed to work just great. I don't know if anyone has already posted this finding, but I will chime in with my results.
This mod consist of running a grounding wire straight onto the MAF mounting bolt. This is easily achieved if you already have a earth grounding system. This little wire provides the maf with a BETTER ground source ( I used a 12ga 55 copper strand ). Its been a month and no problems. On first initial start up idle will be a bit high around the 1k. The computer has to learn this and will adjust.
This mod was done on my stock 05 G35 REV-UP 6sp. Only do mod at your own discretion.

Better throttle response. Anything else I haven't accounted for. First drive I was like.. WOW... very quick transitions now.
I fail to see just how this could possibly work, as the mounting screws are actually screwed into metal inserts molded into the plastic body of the MFA.
The actual sensor ground is the black and white wire, and this is grounded to the ECU and its body ground in turn.

Don't take my word for it.. try the mod... less then 10 minutes and I notice a difference. That is all I need.
FYI- My g35 Now has a KnN drop in filter, kinetix HFC, and custom y pipe.

I thought It wouldn't work too... but upon removing and cleaning of the maf..I notice that this can be achieved ( MAF body is metal ) Think of resistance and conductors. Also wonder why earth grounding systems work so well?

Also just what do you mean by the MFA being metal?? its a plastic tube with two captive nuts that the hold down bolts for the sensor screw into.
However i wont disqualify it without trying it first
its ok to be optimism, but if you don't believe so please keep your comments to yourself. The body of the MAF is metal molded over with plastic or ABS. At least my unit is. You can clearly see the mounting area visible of metal.
This is no different then an earth grounding system.... use that theory and you will understand the fundamentals of this mod.

If you cleaned the hot-wire of the MFA just before doing this mod, you do realise that this could well account for the perceived improvement?
