Ouch... Deer suck. Those Deer Whistle things do work though.

I went through a "Deer" Experience in my Altima. Though I missed the Deer and put the Altima in a ditch, though the only cost to me was a $6 car wash. Didn't even pop a tire.

Put the whistles on and you could see the deer locked on the side of the road when I went by with them. Had the placed so they didn't stick out on the car, and no one noticed them. Have 'em on my Jeep. Need to get for my G I regularly travel roads to/from work with Deer.

I'm in the Richmond area, but I was born in Radford. Only because there was no hospital then in Blacksburg. Long ago in another century.

My mom's family was from Wmsburg to Hampton.

ODU is a good school. I went to UNC and VCU. Imagine my surprise at which one is in the final four. I hope you end up being able to say your Monarchs beat the national champions before they went on a tear.

Deductible amounts are usually a trade-off for a lower premium. $500 is not uncommon for folks looking to minimize the premium. Mine's $250 for collision, but a deer hit like this goes under the $0 collision.
Contrary to what most people think - Hitting a deer is covered under "Other Than Collision", not Collision.

To the OP - I wouldn't say that a $500 deductible is high, in fact, its pretty common. Its worth checking into the cost of a lower deductible though, sometimes you can go to $250 for only a few bucks, but that depends on a lot of variables.
