I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about the three new, big muscle cars (Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger). The article ended by saying that the Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers of today will become classics the same way the 60's and 70's versions of them have.

This got me thinking. I have thought of this before, but never really said anything about it. If you think about it, our cars are pretty uniquely styled. They aren't your average bland coupe or sedan (in my opinion, at least). I have a strong feeling that our cars will become classics, not as muscle cars, but as "luxury" sport coupes. I really do think that, in the future, our cars will become classics and will be worth a lot of money. I could be totally wrong, of course.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Of course, this would include 350Z's.

 

Of course they'll be classics. I mean If i see an old datson restored and what not its a classic. More along the lines of what your saying though.. Luxury coupe/Import.

 

Good point on the Datson. I meant that they would become iconic cars though, not just old cars being restored. Cause any car can be restored to look good.

 

Too soon to say, the reason why the above cars are classified as classics is possibly because they have a long line of history behind them. The g35 is fairly a recent car in comparison to the Mustang, Camaro, etc. I think the 350z has a better chance at being a classic then the g35.

 

Here's the 1st problem, since when is the WSJ an authority on anything automotive? Thats like reading an article in Field and Stream about nuclear fusion...


Doubt it. Those 3 abominations they made to resemble the 60s and 70s versions will never become classics. You watch Barrett or Mecum, the 60-70s muscle cars will ALWAYS be considered classics. The "big 3" are falling far behind, especially if they cant even come up with new vehicles, you have to take designs from 30 years ago and "hip" them up and hope for increased sales(cuz having 15 different models of basically the same SUV isnt working for them either). Personally I think the new Camaro is one of the ugliest cars on the road today.

Thats like saying todays music will eventually become "the oldies"... not gonna happen either.

Not gonna happen, ESPECIALLY, not in the U.S.

 

They will turn into classic cars like anyone old car will but not iconic classic cars people desire to collect other than die hard infiniti/nissan enthusiasts. Other than being stylish, the g35/350z has not changed any new records or boundaries. They arent even that fast. But they will be know for being pretty looking cars.

I can agree with that... No doubt will it be a classic, but not ever like camaro/mustang..

 

20 to 40 years is what technically makes a classic car.. So in 2024 the very first coupe will technically be a classic lol..

Now technicalities aside I don't see this car becoming a "classic" at all.. Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful car but definitely not a classic.

I agree with G2 about the newer three cars.. They are terrrrible with the exception of the Mustang. Ford is doing great things with their cars right now and the new 5.0 is a very impressive car.

 

They will be a classic the same way the Civic is considered a classic.

Comming from someone with a 10k dollar 03 coupe? If you dont think the G/Z is the next Civic, then you havent been around here long.

The G/Z never did anything special, never set any records. It was an entry level luxury car with medicore power at best. Plus it has sold in too high of numbers to ever be considered a classic. How can you call a car a classic when there is 100,000+ of them on the road? The only way the G35 will be remembered is in riced out motifake.com posters.

 

i hope mine is long gone before it becomes the next 240sx craze
