I had an 07 sedan S for two years – loved it but didn’t want to have that payment plus payments on my wife’s Suburban. So I sold it and bought a truck that I paid cash for. Had no issues with my G35 and it ran like a bat out of hell.

Now I’m looking to pick up a gen 1 G35. I want an auto coupe. Are these assumptions correct:

• The oil consumption issue seems to most prevalent in the 05-07 6MT?
• The Rev-up motors are only available in 05-07 G35 coupes and 05-06 G35 sedans with the 6MT transmission?

Any other buying advice welcomed. Thanks.

The revup motor was put in the 05-07 with 6MT and these burn oil due to poor quality piston rings.

There are in related oil issues in the 03 04 due to the valve cover gaskets.

Thanks - are the 03 and 04 issues on 6MT or all engines? How costly is the value cover gasket issue to fix?

Best advice when searching for a first gen coupe, look for one with the lowest mileage/service records/garage kept and with a clear CARFAX. Newer years had nicer interiors, since you're looking for an AT you won't have issues with OC. Good Luck hope you find a jewel....
