04 G35 coup oil consumption?

I have an 04 G35 coupe AT. I am the 2nd owner and bought it 3 years ago at 45000 miles and i bought an extension of warranty for it, too.
The problem started almost 7 months ago when I heard rattling noise from the engine. Took it in and was told that the oil level was too low! Was surprised since I checked the level every 1-2 months and it looked ok. They added oil and checked for leak and was told everything is ok! Last oil change in the dealership (3-4 months ago) went well. I started checking the oil every two weeks and this weekend it was below the low. Added some oil and called the dealer today and was told to bring it in.SA said that they were going to top it off and seal it and recheck it in 1000 miles.
I read many reviews here about oil consumption in G35. I understand they are mostly in the 05-07 MT. Many of them ending up getting a new engine.
1. I did most, but not all, of the oil changes in the dealership( including the last one when they did not mention anything about low level). I am still concerned they might ask for documentation of all the oil changes. I did not keep all the receipts :-(
2. I am also concerned that they might try to give me a hard time since the car is older and now has 85000 miles on it, although it is und extended warranty till 2013.
Any advice will be appreciated.

wow this is a bit strange ive rarely heard of an 04 especially with an auto have the oil consumption problem. Try and accumulate all of the reciepts that you can find. If you have a very good amount i dont think they should make an issue with you just missing 4-5 here and their. Make sure you watch wat mods are on your engine. Since your car is an 04 the Dealers dont want to fix it and will try and find excuses to avoid it. Take out all mods related to the engine. Intake, spacer, etc. Since you have the warranty they have no option but to take you in and look to diagose the problem.

I myself have an 04 6mt and was pretti sure this only happened in 05-07's ........ figure.

I second on Eric's issue I have a 04 6mt that's consumes aprox. 2qts before the next oil change. I did the dealership oil consumption. Check and they stated that my car was considered normal. Beats me that I still have this issue any I only know its only going to get worse. At the time I check the car had 85k and I'm now 110k and still have high consumption.

Thanks for the reply. I have NO engine or exhaust mod on out, just an alarm system and bunch of lamps! The good thing is that the last oil change was done by the dealer and they didn't mention any low level or problem.

Have you guys checked your spark plug liners? A bit of oil can leak through them and out of the valve covers.

The cause may be due to how your G was treated by the first owner, infrequent oil changes or maybe it was beat on severely. I never go to the dealership for service but have kept most of my receipts, but not 100%. Seems like the dealership is treating you alright, just go with what you have....Good Luck and keep us informed with updates!

Oil consumption test done, and, yes! It consumes oil!
The SA said he was told by the (?) to check the valves, and that is of no cost to me. Also to hold on to the loaner as this will take several days!
Is this good, or bad?! :-0

I also have an 04 6mt, about 76k on it. This seems to be my problem now too. Before I was leaking oil, and it turns out I had to replace the valve cover gaskets and an oil pan gasket. That fixed the leaks but I still am losing oil somewhere along the line..... Let us know what the final verdict is.

Hey so I have a similar issue and this was the only but on a 03 g35 sedan with high oil consumption, but I have 78,000 and not a single bit of oil leaking on my motor or trans, but I'm running low about 1.5 qt every oil change. When I bought the car it looked like the dealership took it in created a tag and then forgot to change the oil while it was already low so my light came on. needless to say still same issue they said it may be PVC valve could be bad and I just had my thermostat go out.

I have heard that shaking it is a way to know if it's bad or good? no idea if that is true tho.

My 04 6mt was also burning oil. it failed the OC test 3 times. The dealer was cool and replaced the short block under my extended warranty the car had 83000 miles. If you nicely force the issue it can be done just make sure you have oil change and maintenance receipts. I am the third owner of the car

Bring back the old thread again...

My 2003 6spd coupe is consuming almost a quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have done some research and it looks like it could possibly be a bad PCV valve...you might want to check into it. Im going to replace mine and ill update back.

I did notice quite a bit of oil in my lower collector as well..FYI

My 06 G35 failed the consumption test. I kept a close watch on the oil level and it used about a quart after 2k miles.
Traded it in on Aug 31st for a 2012 G37S with 171796 miles . Engine still ran like new.

For those with older G's that use oil all you have to do is check it weekly and you will be fine.

Oil is cheap

My 04 Coupe 6mt had the same issue. It consumed 3/4 to 1qt every 1000. Had the test done and it failed all three test. The stealership relaced the long block under warranty back in 2010. I have 30k now and i burn 1/4 quart every 3000 started since day one but the dealership said it falls withing range. Now im out of warranty on the replacement.

I've been bossted for 10k now and I still only burn 1/4 qt every 3000k. I can live with this. I check my oil every other fill up just to monitor.

If you are under warranty you should be good. Just press the issue and say you want the replacement dobe if it fails the tests. Dont let them tell you its something else.
