How often should AT fluid be changed?

I bought my car about a month ago and only maintenance I've done is change it over to synthetic and maintain proper fluid levels. I know I should probably change the tranny fluid so I'm wondering, is it just a simple drain and refill or is there a filter that should be replaced as well? I know most rough/ hard shifts are easily solved by fluid change. Wondering if there's a filter change that should go along with it as well.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
10 3/4 qts. for a full fluid change and use ONLY Nissan Matic S, the S replaced Matic J which is OK as well but harder to find. The jury's out on whether a full flush is good or bad, so what I'd recommend is do a drain and fill which will replace ~ 4 qts., drive the car for 2-300 miles, then repeat the process twice more. Kind of a pain, but it's a super simple DIY as mentioned above.

A drain and fill will work for now. No, there is no filter in our 5ATs. Use only what Nissan recommends in your AT anything else may cause unwanted issues. If you think the trans fluid has never been replaced it would be a good idea to do the differential and radiator too then all other fluids just so you won't have a major failure.

The dealer recomends 16 quarts to do a full flush of the system. I beleive the system only holds about 12 though. But man to be honest with you if your gonna do a flush id rather pay the extra 100 bucks and have someone do it with the machine cause its not really difficult to do just time consuming and a PITA. Theres a video over on infiniti help on how to do it, which basically involves removing under tray, drain the pan, Fill it back up with 4 quarts, then unhook the driver side hose that goes in the bottom of the radiator, plug the hose side with a pen or something and get a hose to put over the spout that you unhooked the hose from and run it into a marked container to measure how much has come out, turn the car on till the container is filled (i did it in 4 quart incraments with a gallon container that i marked with a sharpie), turn the car off, fill with 4 more quarts and repeat till your fluid looks like new.
