Recommended Maintenance: Buying a Used g35
Recommended Maintenance: Buying a Used g35
When you buy a used g35 and you aren't sure if all of the maintenance has been done, the following things can be performed with some mechanical inclination and minimal tools. The total cost will probably be near $200 if done at home. I've listed the services from what I believe to be the most important to those of lesser importance.
Engine Oil (and filter)
Air Filter
Drive Belts (2)
Automatic Transmission Fluid (2 or more times if dirty)
Rear Differential Fluid
Front Differential (AWD only)
Transfer Case Fluid (AWD only)
Spark Plugs (if start-up is often rough)
Power Steering Fluid
Coolant
Brake Fluid (if dirty...often this is done during a brake job)
Cabin Air Filter
If I missed anything, please feel free to add! Also, I would only recommend using Nissan fluids for the transmission, differentials and transfer case.

Good list.
When I got my coupe last year @ 67.5k miles, I did everything except the belts, coolant and brakes. Then my rad decided to crack a couple weeks ago so did that as well.
New brakes + ss lines in a few weeks. Cabin air filter next oil change.

I purchased my '05 6MT Sedan 1 month ago with 74,400 miles and I really need to get on this list! I'm going to hit 75,000 today on my way home from work. The car is in very good shape, but I don't know anything about the maintenance so I guess to be safe I need to knock this stuff out. With 2 kids both under 3 years old I may end up taking it to a dealer, but they quoted me $680 to do the 60k service. Ugh!
I'm going back to the last "major service" which was 60k miles.
In addition to the list you started, the manual also recommends the following:
- Replace radiator cap (I plan to do this with the increased pressure one)
- Replace radiator hoses (I plan to do this with silicone hoses)
Minor things that can probably be done as needed:
- Lube all locks/hinges
- replace wiper blades
- rotate tires
And of course Inspect a bunch of stuff:
- all lights
- axle & suspension parts
- brake lines/cables/calipers/pads/rotors
- drive shaft boots
- exhaust system
- front suspension ball joints
- fuel lines/connections
- fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
- headlights- adjust if necessary
- propeller shaft (AWD)
- steering gear & linkage and ball joints
I think you covered the major stuff that is more important, but in case anyone wants to be very thorough I figured I'd put all the details out there.

Before you post a thread you really need to do a ....... SEARCH, this exact list was posted less than a year ago. I believe no question is stupid but how many times are you going to ask it? I haven't answered a thread like this for a long time but this is really ridiculous! If you can post a thread you can use our SEARCH function....Gary
People seem to post questions asking about this weekly so hopefully this list for dummies will prevent some of those people asking the same thing over and over again because people obviously weren't using the other one.

On another note, I agreed with who ever requested DIY links under each bullet point if this is going to be stickied. I think it would be a useful sticky, though.
Yes that's what they call it, check your owners manual for the correct weight. I suggest you use synthetic, either Red Line or AMSOIL both are high quality gear oils. I'm swapping mine out this week while I install my ART pipes....Gary
