Had a fail time today putting the manifold gasket on. i trapped the dang oil filler rubber flange between the plenum on the first tightening, and then i broke one of the bolts. Changed the oil and made a big mess at that too.

yes. You should spray wd40 into a rag and then wipe it on the rust. It will remove the rust and prevent future rust!
