I'm talking about putting some corrosion inhibiting chemical on the EXPOSED threads, , the threads just sitting there open to the atmosphere, not doing anything.
The majority of torque on lug nuts is from the matting surface between the lug nut and the wheel, not on the threads of the stud, and you are only putting a tiny amount on the exposed threads that have zero amount of torque applied to them anyway. Sure, some lube will seep into the non-exposed threads, but that would be after the wheels were torqued down and it would act as an anti-seize, and wouldn't change the torque already on the metal at all, especially at the matting surface at the wheel.
But sure, stuffing a piece of porous foam, that will do an excellent job of wicking up any moisture (rain, dew, etc.) like a sponge... because it is... into crevice of a ferrous metal should help them to corrode wonderfully.
