Do you really need to change your brakes?

Sitting at the dealers and i am just too lazy to do the oil change myself. So after they are done they tell me that my brakes need to be change. I ask them how they check for that and they told me that they have to pull off the wheel. So i ask him, how do you pull off my wheels w/ out the key? He said, Hummmmmm..... I will make a note of that.

I think they just want money for this. If you hear this, i say get another opion or if you know what to look for, check it for yourself. Not going to waist money when i checked it myself and looks more then half on their

What do you mean without the key? Like the key for the locks on the wheels? I mean wouldn't you give them the key or wouldn't they have extra keys if the wheels are OEM as with the lugs?

Little bit confused with this post. They shouldn't charge you to check the brakes.

After market key. They looked at my records and looks like someone is getting in troble.

What they told me is when they check for it they pull off the wheel. Well i have my wheel lock hiding in the car so how can they check it?

yeah if you took it to any nissan/infiniti dealer they definitely have the wheel locks in their shop. also they have a way of measuring break depth and the brake pads also have sensors on the ends from what ive seen

Infiniti tried it on me as well. The first time I ever went in, they said my brakes were just about finished. Even though they were brand new and I had my mechanic confirm this. The second time I went in there for the brake judder TSB, when they actually had reason to take off my wheels, they gave me the real specs of my brakes and told me what my real mechanic already had, that they had a lot of miles left on them. So anytime I get asked to purchase a service from Infinit, I always either check the forums, or ask my mechanic for a second opinion. Good thing you didn't fall in their trap though! =)

Hey Bro,
just a dealership point of view,
I just talked to one of my techs, of course if they are standard wheels, we have the locks, if you left the lock in the trunk, they would use your key, there's no charge for a break check of course,
and a tech just showed me, with a car on the rack, using flash light and mirror, you can see the pads and thier thickness, not saying that's what this dealership did, just saying that's what we would do

That's an awful lot of work for someone that's to lazy to change his own oil........and why would you have the Stealership do an oil change anyway? I remember when "Antenna Service" was on our service sheets at the dealerships....and they'd charge you for something that didn't exist....Gary

They must have thought it was worth the try. You brought your car to the stealership to get an overpriced oil change after all...

$38? That it? Ok, nm... but at that price, I'd be more concerned about what kind of oil they are using. Either way, low prices is just another way they bring people in to try to rip them off or make more money off of them. That tactic is used by shops all over.

wow.. how do you measure the thickness with a mirror and a flash light?
just wondering.. i mean, you do work at the dealership that doesn't use OEM coolant, right? I would hate to goto your dealership for service.. IMO..
