anyone ever seen/heard of bent valves in only one cylinder on any car?

an inlaw blew a hg on their altima and the head has been taken off and taken to the machine shop to get checked out. the valve stem seals were replaced, the head was decked, and they made sure the valves seated properly. everything was put back together and the car started right up. the idle was low on the car so not knowing what exactly was the cause the car was taken to a mechanic. first the mechanic told my inlaw the valve stem seals weren't installed and then he said a valve was bent. i guess the head was removed and the mechanic said that some of the valves were bent on the #4 cylinder. i've never heard of valves being bent on only one cylinder. usually it's multiple valves throughout the valve train. has anyone every heard of valves being bent on only one cylinder? i don't want to think this guy is taking my inlaws money but, it seems like it's one thing after another with the guy. today he said the alternator AND the head was cracked and he said that he was going to weld the crack in the head to repair it. i've also never heard of anyone fixing a cracked head by welding. anyway, can anyone else let me know if they've ever seen valves bent on one cylinder please. i really wanna go see the damage myself.

Ahh that sucks, only thing I can think of is if they do get it done, ask for the old parts to at
least see for your self they're bent

.
Valves were probably not shimmed right.
I wouldnt authorize to repair that cracked head by welding it. where is the crack located?

As for one cylinder valves bending the valves were probably not shimmed right. And was the motor properly assembled?

Not uncommon if they weren't installed correctly/adjusted wrong. This mechanic sounds like he's worthless and doing it wrong....Gary

just to clear things up, by saying "not uncommon" you saying it IS common? Or NOT common?

But anyway maybe youre right the mechanic might be a flake. Tell him to show you the valves along with the other valves and the cracked head.

i wanna go see for myself. i know if the valves made contact with the piston they're gonna leave a mark on the piston that's unmistakable. i'd like to see the head as well.
