This is usually on most cars which is convenient if you ever have to drive a car other than your own (i.e. rental, friends).
It is also convenient when you have 2 vehicles, and they are on opposite sides from each other. Remind you which side the vehicle you are pulling into the gas station needs to be by the pump.

^^^+1 on that when you've got 5 different vehicles to keep gassed up.
Hate when I have those brain fart days and forget which side and you pull up to pump only to find out you're on the wrong side...doh.
Haha...now I see that arrow...never noticed that before

I was also wondering about this a while back and the my only conclusion is the exhaust for safety reasons. It makes perfect sense and if you look out there at all the cars with single exhausts they seem to be all on the opposite side.

Benefit to it being on the passengers side is that when you open the door
to get out, you are not opening the door into the concrete island the gas pump is sitting on, or hitting the yellow steel pipes they put around the pumps, etc. So less door dings

It has alot to do with where the muffler is located. If you look around, most cars have the gas filler door on the opposite side of the muffler. I think it is a safety feature that you don't spill gas on a hot muffler. With 5 cars sitting at home, when I pull into a gas station, I will try to remember which side is my muffler sitting on then I know I need to pull to the pump on the other side of the car. For some reason, I can remember the muffler location better than filler door.

nissan was just too cheap to change it over to the driverside. Just like the the temp, volume, navi joystick, and hazard button.

Precisely my thoughts as well. Too many items on this car appear to be designed from a RHD perspective for this to be a pure coincidence.

This is my favorite tangible benefit of having the gas door on the passenger side. I don't mind it at all.

EXACTLY!!! they gotta mix it up sometimes, if all the fillers were on the drivers side only one side of the gas station pumps would be utilized. consider yourself lucky this car is opposite of the majority, you can get in the short line
