Why is gas door on passenger side?

This is usually on most cars which is convenient if you ever have to drive a car other than your own (i.e. rental, friends).

It has alot to do with where the muffler is located. If you look around, most cars have the gas filler door on the opposite side of the muffler. I think it is a safety feature that you don't spill gas on a hot muffler. With 5 cars sitting at home, when I pull into a gas station, I will try to remember which side is my muffler sitting on then I know I need to pull to the pump on the other side of the car. For some reason, I can remember the muffler location better than filler door.

EXACTLY!!! they gotta mix it up sometimes, if all the fillers were on the drivers side only one side of the gas station pumps would be utilized. consider yourself lucky this car is opposite of the majority, you can get in the short line
