The key is when you change the oil. You can use regular oil, and as long as you change it every 3000, you will never realize the benefit of the synthetic. Your engine will run over 150,000 on regular oil just fine as long as you keep up your preventitive maintanence.

that is correct. am i the only one here that changes their oil every 4-5k? btw, the recommended OCI is 7.5k on dino. I also buy my filters from Nissan rather than Infiniti.... it's $2/filter difference for the same part.

My oil changes cost $10. Now some may say "well you should spend the money, you already spent so much on your car." I'm no cheapskate. I'm just more practical about spending. Why spend more when it's not necessary? Using a bottle of synth would be $20 for 5 quarts mobil 1 and $5 for the filter.. or if i went w/ mobil 1 filter $10. So $30 some may be paying more for synth oil. Is using mobil1 going to make that much of a difference? well i guess only time will tell.

Although modern dino oils provide pretty much the same protection as synth. they do not keep the engine internals as clean as a synth would, even at 3000 mile intervals. This, of course, is irrelevant if you don't plan to keep the car a long time.

I saw a video, can't recall where now though, with a honda that the guy put water in instead of oil (It was a really old honda that was ready to be scrapped) and sat there revving it off the rev limiter and it kept going, albiet smoking a lot.
