I will usually set the parking brake, then put my car into gear. I don't know if it makes any difference but I don't like the wieght of the car resting on the gears. My routine is as follows:

Park,
hold the brake with the parking brake,
take foot off the brake and let the car's weight rest on the parking brake, then put it into gear.

I put mine in gear every time. My brother had has had 2 Vettes and those have REALLY crappy parking brakes.......so I don't really trust parking brakes that much in general.

My problem is when driving my woman's car.........I forget to put it in Park (it's an automatic). I have more problems driving/parking an auto than a stick....that's sad.

the car wrecking into a wall was probably froma post of mine. Had a friend with remote start on a 5.0 mustang... it was cold (so on startup it was revving high) and he hit it in his pocket and it ran into a wall at like 10mph

I think this needs a poll, right next to the "Which is hotter? Moonroof tilted up or closed?" poll, hahahaha
