New Sedan Owner !

hi guys,

just wanted to drop in and say hi. ive monitored this board here and there and want to say congrats on the good work. I am the proud new owner of a 2003 Silver/Black G35 sedan. my previous car was a 92 ford escort which barely made it into the dealership for the tradein. i would have traded it for a pack of gum but the nice guys at the dealership gave me $350 for it... car is pretty much flawless with just under 45K miles. has the gold package (which im not even sure what that is), heated seats, power windows, sun roof, automatic, and some other goodies that i cant thnk of. im still not used to driving auto yet seeing all my past cars have been stick. when driving it in the semi-auto mode i found myself lifting off the gas to shift like i would in my old cars.... thats gonna take some getting used to. i had a few questions for the experts on this board:

the passenger side heated seat switch... is that supposed to have a background light ? the drivers side is illuminated even when the seat warmer is not on. isnt the passenger side supposed to be the same ?

is the clock in the dash supposed to be lit up ? mine is not and i found it to be a pain in the *** finding out what time it is in the dark

are the 2 programmable seat position buttons an option ? because i dont think my car has it. the car has so many damn buttons i have no idea what each one does yet.

the dealer says it has the Xenon High Intensity headlights (HID's right ??) , the window sticker says the same. but when i turn the lights on they dont look like HID's. i know a few cars that have them and these dont look the same. could it possibly be due to different temperature bulbs ? will putting a higher temp bulb in there hurt anything ? is there an easy way to find out if it is really HID's ?

is there an owners manual that i could print up online ? the dealer didnt give me one (im assuming because it was a used car and they were too lazy to order a new manual).

when i set the temperature to 80 degrees and hit the "Auto" button the AC button turns on as well and it automaticly switches over to comming out at my feet.. i cant adjust it any other way because as soon as i do it switches back into manual mode... what am i doing wrong.. i dont want the AC on, i dont want it at my feet.. i just want it constantly at 80 (mixed between upper and lower vents)... the manual would be good to have here

what little mods, like installing a Z-Tube, will void my warranty? i dont plan to put much into this car (tint, valentine 1, ztube w/ K&N) because i might upgrade in 2 years and want to pay off as much of this car as i can.

i honestly really wanted the coupe but at the time they didnt have what i wanted and i needed a car desperatly.. so far im really liking the sedan... especially all the room in the back seat. when all my friends go out we wont need to cram into the thing like a can-o-sardines. sorry for the long post but im just so excited about this i could scream like a little school girl. driving to work this morning was a whole new experince.. my *** is still toasty from the seat warmer.

Welcome aboard...
Wow, so many questions.....

Is it still under warranty?
the passenger side heated seat switch... is that supposed to have a background light ?
Yes

is the clock in the dash supposed to be lit up ?
Yes. It is dim though turn up the dash lights full to see if they work at all (2 bulbs)

are the 2 programmable seat position buttons an option ?
look on the side of the seat

the dealer says it has the Xenon High Intensity headlights
optional on '03; they're not projector style HIDs

is there an owners manual that i could print up online ?
go to Infiniti Publications for $19 you can join for 24hrs & download the shop manuals in pdf

iwhen i set the temperature to 80 degrees and hit the "Auto" button ....
Just set it & leave it. A/C light doesn't mean it's running, but it will come on to dry the air. It automatical directs the air.
a little funky but yoiu get used to it

what little mods, like installing a Z-Tube, will void my warranty?
check out the tech section... asked & answered many times..

Hope this helps

Wow. First congrats on the new car.

Can't answer all of your questions but I'll take a shot at the ones I can answer.

On the seat heater - as far as the 04 and later model the light is only on when the seat warmer is in fact turned on. I am assuming here that the 03 is the same. Might want to have that one checked out.

Clock - gotta check with an 03 owner. Sorry

Programmable seats were an option. If you have it, the buttons will be on the left side of the driver seat. Put your hand down like you were going to pick something up off the floor right beside you on your left and the buttons should be on the side of the seat right around there.

Now there may be some differences in the 03 from the 04 and later models but you should be able to press the auto/econ button and "scroll" through the non-AC, auto, and auto/econ settings. However - regardless of what it says the AC compresser will NOT be on unless the car is trying to cool the inside. Assuming your internal sensors are working properly you should still get heat not cold. If you get cold only - have it checked.

Mods do not void your warranty. Only mods that are PROVEN to be the cause of said "problem" can be held against you on your warranty. The problem here comes in regarding the attitude of your local dealership regarding mods and how they handle such things. Check the regional forum for people in your area and find out who is "mod friendly" and who isn't.

Hope someone can answer your question about the lights as I am not very familiar with those. And there are plenty of 03 owners around here if my assumptions are incorrect as to things being the same for 03 and 04.

Congrats on the purchase. See the following link for an online version of your owner's manual:

If that won't answer your questions on the climate control, check this thread for a recent discussion on the subject:

Congrats man! What....no feedback on how your '03 drives compard to your '92 Escort!? Whaddya think of all the HP? Me, coming from a 115 HP VW Jetta = one happy camper . Good luck w/ it! Start w/ a K&N drop in filter & a Z-tube...that'll keep you happy for a little while.

my first car was a 1997 Mustang Cobra so im used good HP numbers but i am impressed at the power the 6 cylinder puts out and it moves real good for a heavy sedan. you cant even compare a 93 escort to this beast ! the escort was hands down the better car....... juuuust kidding. i love how smooth the G feels. i'd love to lower her about an inch but im worried that smoothness will go away if i do. i think the first thing im going to do is upgrade the alarm w/ auto start (its cold as a bastard here in MA), then the Z-Tube w/ Filter... and then the small UT wing... and who knows whatelse... too much to decide from ! i actually just broke my ocmpas on my lunch break, i read the manual before i went out and decided to screw with some buttons... now the compas just displays flashing "- - -"... the manual says to turn all electronics off and drive around real slow so im gonna try that when i get out... thats what i get for being curious

i dont know the name of the silver but its the light silver and black interior w/ woodgrain accents

im not really a fan of woodgrain but it actually looks good in this car.. maybe its because its only on the door handles and shifter and not all over the place list most other cars

also, i paid 21k for it... does that sounds about right. asking price was 24k
