Exclamation '04 CLUTCH - oh sh**??

Hey guys (and girls?)

Some of you may or may not have seen this posted around in other threads. If so, sorry for the repost, but I have a BURNING question for those more experineced in the ways of The G than I.

First off, just bought myself silver '04 6sp mt with 20500 miles on Friday. All I have to say is: i don't know where the HELL i've been, but this car is the BEST. nuff said. Glad to be here!

Ok, now. I'm wondering if i just bought something with a problem. Everything on the car is cherry save for the clutch. I used to drive 1)an 02 RSX and 2)an 05 RSX Type S and never had this problem before so I'm wondering if it is native to the G or i have myself a service issue. The problem is: rattle. Rattle rattle rattle! I feel it in the clutch. I feel it in the shifter. I can faintly hear it when i rev with clutch depressed. What gives? Someone I spoke to in brief said it might be my flywheel giving out. Is that true?

The input would be much appreciated. I already called the dealer and set up an appointment to drop it off, but I would like to know in advance how serious (or simple?) the issue might be.

Your dealership will tell you the clutch chattering is normal and all 6MT G35 have it. Personally I have heard this cement mixing noise from almost all the 6MT G35's I 've seen.

It has something to do with how the synchro's for the manual are connected to the shifter. It vibrates when the car is on, doesn't really "chatter" for me though.

Are you talking about vibrations/pulsations in the clutch pedal or in the shifter while shifting. I just got my G35 as well, and it feels like the clutch throw out bearing is going out. I get a "gritty" feeling if I just put a little pressure on the clutch pedal (but not fully disengaging the clutch) while driving.

Roll the windows down and keep the RPMs above 4000, no more tranny noise. Seriously, my 04 6MT is noisier then my 96 Chevy 4x4 5 speed manual. Go figure?

No, I don't think they are multi disc, but they do have similar noises to my friend's Supra with a carbon-carbon twin disc clutch.

it either has a dual disc clutch assembly or dual mass flywheel... not that they are the same or anything... i could have sworn the brochure or vehicle documents stating that we have a dual mass flywheel....could that attribute to anything? sorry if this is jacking the thread...
