Tire Damage :@
Hey guys im a long time reader and dont post much at all.
but recently i got a nail in the my driver side rear tire. Unfortunatly its on the lip so its considered sidewall damage. The tire isnt losing air however i am wondering if i should get it replaced or not. i have had my coupe for about 8 months and its got the Michelin Pilot Sport Z rated tires on it.. they are at 70% right now. so my questions are
1) should i replace the tire or wait til it starts to lose air first?
2) if i have to change the tire, ive been quoted $460-$525CAD/ Tire ... is that reasonable?
thanks in advance

order tires online and pay to get em mounted. I couldnt get anyone to give me a good price and figured that even though its free when i get the tires from the tire shop i go to, its worth it to pay 40 (10 mount and 10 balance) and get the tires for 200 cheaper online. cheack out www.tirerack.com

i recently had a nail in my rear tire that was near the sidewall but not 100% for sure in it. i replaced the tire (s03 275/35/19). yes it was expensive, but the last thing i need is my tire blowing up on me out of no where. i was losing air but at a very slow rate. better safe than sorry.

Take it to a tire repair shop. Not Canadian Tire or Midas or OK Tire etc. Go to a guy that specializes in tire repair only. You should be able to find one in your yellow pages. Chances are he will be able to fix it. At least let him look at it. I was in a situation that sounds exactly like yours and Canadian Tire and Costco wouldn't touch it. The tire repair specialist fixed it and it has been holding for over 2 years no problem. It wasn't on my G but it is a similar low profile tire.

I clipped a large chunk of concrete (construction debris - fell of the back of a dump truck) with my tire in the first two weeks of owning the car. The impact tore the sidewall, but only enough to expose one thread, not to cause a loss of pressure. I had it checked out by NTB, and the guy told me - off the record - that it wouldn't be a problem to keep the tire so long as you don't corner really hard on it and as long as you don't notice a bubble forming.
I followed his advice and kept the tire for nearly a year before I replaced it. The only reason I ever replaced it is that you can't pass a state inspection with sidewall damage. Don't know if you guys have that rule in Canada...
I'd stick with the tire as long as you can. Just take a look at it before and after you drive the car and take a pressure reading every couple of days. You'll probably be fine.

If you know someone at Costco, get it there. It is $275 for the 245/40ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport Blackwall. This includes everything. Hey, if you need all four, they have the $60 off for 4 tire sale once-in-a-while too, with free balancing (although I don't know how they will do it with these tires).
