Firstone is telling me that they must replace a sensor at the tire for $18 a pop. Now I am already spending $1300 for new tires all around and an extra $70 is not much in comparison, but I dont like getting ripped off.

He is saying that it is now law. Of course he new the kind of car when he gave me the quote. But now when the tires are in and getting installed, they pull this out of thin air.

I do realize we have sensors in the tires, but do they have to be replaced each time a tire is replaced?

Anyone know?

Absolutly not!! The tire pressure sensors are in the vavle stems (attached to the rims). Unless you are getting rew wheels as well as tires they are jerking you around. As far as it being law, that is bogus as well. How the hell can it be against the law to not have a tire pressure monitoring system when most vehicles on the road don't.

Honestly, I would find another tire dealer that is not trying to rob you blind. They don't deserve your buisness.

Yes, go somewhere more reputable. I wouldn't trust any of those Firestone or Goodyear dealers. Probably not even Pep Boys. I do most of my wheel/tire business at Discount Tires. Also, like zimmG35 said, our tire pressure sensors are the valve stems and can be reused. Don't let them rip you off.

The "sensors" in our tires are over $100 each. He is trying to rip you off!

I just had the front passenger tire replaced and there was no mention of your issue. Go to another shop.

I had my rear tires changed out about 2 weeks ago, and I don't recall anything like that.

Oh, and CRyan. When you go to have the tires replaced, I would suggest that you mention to the shop that you have the OEM TPS on the wheels, and to be extra careful with them when unmounting and mounting. Someone mentioned that they are $100 a pop at the dealer....I think it's closer to $200 a sensor from the dealer. Just let them know that they are there and you want to reuse them.
