Is My 6mt Dying???

I can't say that I've ever liked my transmission, but recently its downright....craptastic. Its usually just a quick grind from 1st to 2nd shifting on the rare occassion, but yesterday, I found that I couldn't shift into 5th gear without it grinding. It literally cannot shift into 5th without a momentary grind...but it will go into gear. Its embarassing as hell, but at least the weather is cool enough that everyone's windows around me are closed!

I called Competition Infinity today (10 mins from work) and after getting pissed off at their customer service YET AGAIN, they said that its probably the tranny and they'll swap it out with manager approval.

BUT - what I need to know from you guys is what do you think the possible causes are? If it can ONLY be the transmission, then I want to make sure I walk out of there with a new tranny and not a damn thing less!

What do you guys think?

Yeah, but is this the type of problem that MUST be cured by a tranny swap? Do you know anyone who needed a new tranny who didn't blow it at E-Town?

MINE!!!! Mine!!!! 11K Pressure plate busted and a new clutch was installed. Recently, I had the dreadful embarrasing cement mixer noise at idle and they replaced the tranny! I never had grinding issues, but the noise at idle was loud as hell!

Take it in and let them swap it! There are numerous posts regarding grinding issues and new tranny's! Be thankful you have a great delaership (or better then most dealership, especially craplantic) that actually has knowledge of the issues the car has. Seems like they aren't giving you a run around which is nice!

BTW, I believe I read somewhere that they are on the 4th or 5th revision of the tranny which means they obviously had some issues!

Good luck!

Drew, to your knowledge, do they put a 2005 model tranny in the car or is it a 2003 spec replacement?
