I have a g35coupe with alot of mods on it, Stillen s/c etc. How do you figure out the value of your car? I was just curious.

problem is mods dont really add value. Either eat the cost of most of it and ask maybe 3k over market price on one or part it out and then sell it. Im in the same boat my friend, I am selling mine and I dont' want to part it out but its the only way to get as much money as possible

 

Yeah, most people usually part their mods out. You will find you will end up with more money if you part out if you are looking to sell it.

Really, I was told once estimate 50% of the value of your parts. I think my car is worth 36k to 40 k. does that seem high. Kelly blue book says 33660. suggested retail value plus I have 15,000 into the car including all my labor.

 

KBB+50% cost of mods, not including labor. That's a good starting point.

 

If I ever sell it Ill have to part it out I guess. I would love to buy a GTR when they come out....

 

Id say maybe you could get 37-39k.

 

The issue with modded cars are that most consumers won't want a car that has been heavily modified; therefore, the market for your car will be much less than a "stock" car.

If you keep it "as is", you will have to wait until you find a person who will want what you have done to the car, and likely eat most of the costs of your mods. You are much better off selling the parts separately

 

from my experience, most people associate a modded car with an abused car, they just assume the "modded" car has been driven hard....my 2 cents

 

+1 ^^ I had a modded Prelude before my G, and when I went to sell it I had a lot of people walk away as soon as they saw I had modified it because they didn't want a car that they assumed had been raced/abused. It was a tough sale!

 

I have over 25k in mods and labor and I tried selling on ebay for 40k and that was to much.. 33k miles on it..

 

its very difficult selling a modded car, my previous car was a 240sx S14 that i put a decent amount of money in. Either you part it out and get what you can out of it, or throw it on autotrader/ebay until you get your asking price if your not in a rush to sell.

If reasonably priced, someone will go through with it even if its modded.. just might take a little longer than you want

subtract the value of the mods

pretty good idea, unless you can find somebdoy who'll pay for them (Which is quite rare since everybody knows mods detract value)

part it out, you'll make more
