Would you trade in a G for the BMW 330i?
I love my G but have been thinking about the BMW 330i since BMW does offer free maintance. I have a 04 6MT with 21000 miles on it and the time has come for changing tires, brakes. I was wondering if it is worth it to lease the 330i with the same payment amount as my G but with all the perks BMW offers. I tried very hard to get the M3 but could not afford the payments which were around $780.I now pay $460 (financing). Will it be a big sacrifice in performance to go from a G to the 330i? For the record,I have problems with my tranny-having difficulties going into 3rd gear when shifting at 5000rpm or higher. It goes to 5th gear instead which is really annoying. The dealer finds nothing wrong with it and I have no time or energy dealing with it. Other problems are the mirror rattle, axle clicking sound and incorrect reading on the gas gauge.

Would i trade it in for a 330i ? NOPE
Would i buy a 330i ? Maybe
Would i wait and trade my G in for the new M3? YES
Back on topic.. you would be suprised on the power of the 330i (N52B30 motor)... they do offer a really good maintenance warranty... but you wouldn't go wrong with buying a BMW if that's what your really asking.. problem is the total of a BMW starts to add up real fast with all the options

3 series are everywhere. many friends moms drive one... if you are going to bmw, Get at least M3.
The payment amounts are the same but many more months i bet. don't just look at amount of payment, but how many payments also. would you want to be making payments forever? or knowing your G is payment-Free?

you need to look at the actual long term expenses. u'll lose out on a lot of money by moving to a new car. people too often just concern themselves with the monthly payments and don't consider the bigger financial picture. if you're worried about paying for maintenance of your vehicle, a lease should be the last thing on your mind imo

Trade G... for 330...?????
HELLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOO.
I traded my 03 Mercedes E500 for this G. Well, not actually traded... still have the e500, but i rarely drive it. I put on less than 1000 miles on my E500 since June 2005 and 17000 miles on my G.
Stock to stock, E500 eats up G35, from start, on freeway, rolling, whatever. But I'm WAY more happy with my G... i SO regret spending all my money on the damn benz..
Now, the 330? I'd rather drive 350z base model.
As for M3, for that money, I'd give my G some boost and clown on the typical M3 owners who think their car's a jet, flying at Mach 3 passing by lower end japanese imports, screaming "hahahaha ricer boy! M power baby!!"
Anyways, much love for the M3 though, I almost bought it until I sat down in one at the dealership and the interior design totally turned me down so I just walked out without even driving it after saving up for it for long time...
Too bad lots of M3 owners are a-holes.
Bottomline, G35/350Z = best thing that happened since MKIV Supra TT.
If you already own a G, good move. If not, get yourself into one.

By the way, I didn't read any of the posts on this thread when I wrote the above reply. I just saw the "Trade in a G for BMW 330i" part of the topic and got all fired up and started writing. lol
Now that i've read what Lokoto actually posted... what I think is, either you try to find a nice clean used M3 (if you are craving for a better performing car), but I think you're mainly thinking financially? if so, Just keep your current car. Whenever you change cars, you will lose more money than gain unless you step down to something that'll make a big difference.
Your car should be under warranty, so if your dealer service guys give you a hassle about your problems, tell them to suck it and take it to another dealership and speak to the service manager directly. Don't look at the monthly payment alone when you look at pricing... look at overall total of the money out of your pocket until the car is actually yours. Maintenance, depreciation, reliability, resale difficulties/value, etc. You have an 04 which means you already put good amount of money into it. You probably have a lot less than 20k left to pay out the car (assuming you purchased it).
If you lease the bmw, you'll be paying something similar to what you still owe on your G, but few years later, you don't own a car any more. And by the way, not a very good idea to purchase euros unless you got lots of dollars. I bought my 03 MB E500 for 75k and it's not even worth 40k now.
As far as maintenance, yeah bmw gives you brake pads throughout the warranty period. Ask yourself: How much are brake pads? Whole $500 thrown in! And looking at your mileage, you'll probably get 2~3 sets of pads the whole time frame you lease the car. Free scheduled maintenance... sounds good, but in reality, it ain't ****.
Checking your oil levels, oil changes, minor shlt you can do yourself, or doesn't cost that much to get them done. If it's major problem, usually it's covered under the warranty. Look at the big picture, not the small things (like the free brake pads). Those are there to lure more customers into buying BMW. And it's not a bad marketing strategy at all.
Do you buy a car to get the car itself, or the extras that come with the car? (My benz has free maintenance, free mercedes rental cars whenever it's in service, free this free that, but they didn't mention free problems, headaches, and time consuming. Even with the best dealer in the nation (if not the world): Fletcher Jones Motorcars in Newport Beach. They have great service, but I don't want to see all those great service guys when I can spend my quality time elsewhere. BMWs are great cars but they do tend to have small problems a lot. Especially electronic. I've never had a single problem with my G so far, and I abuse the shlt out of it daily :P
On a side note, benz is going back into the dealer for the millionth time. And this is the third time for the SAME problem + some damn recall. Amazing how many cars are literally lined up like trains at the service department waiting to get their problems repaired... shows how "reliable" the cars are eh?
If you are concerned about high monthly payment, you can always try to refinance your G and get better interest rates, lower payment. Just like buying another new car.
I keep mentioning mercedes, but i do have a lot of friends with bmw and their opinions and experiences were similar to mine.
Anyways, sorry for the long post, I doubt anyone would read thru this far, as I don't even remember wtf I wrote above myself. If you (Lokoto) read it, I hope I made sense and it helps on your decision, whatever it may be. In the end, don't decide on what others say. Go with what you love. If you love the G, keep it. If you like 330 more, go for it.
It's your car and your money out of your pocket.
Good luck with your choice
