Air bag deployed as tech tried to change shifter.

Re: Air bag deployed as tech tried to change shifter.
Just an idea, but perhaps you could try your auto insurance? (I would think that it would be covered under comprehensive depending on how liberal your carrier's policies are).
I'm nearly positive my carrier would cover it and I have a very low deductible.
Just to reiterate, it makes absolutely no sense that a wire pertaining to the passenger side airbag would be located in the center console. Common sense dictates that no wiring would pass through such a location.

I think he has the repairs covered already (by the shop). I think at this point its a matter of finding out what really happened so he can trust the car. The shop is adamant they didnt touch the airbag wiring. If thats true, he's got to have the whole system checked.

gudpg35, I wasn't aware that you were an automotive electrical engineer. Common sense? Hardly. Too bad for you that Infiniti didn't make your car idiot proof. Have to lie a lot when you take your car in for service? Please feel free to rant as much as you want because you're not worth any more of my time.
SammyJL, unless this is only an Infiniti bitch forum, other opinions should be welcome. As a new Coupe owner, I was content to lurk and pick up nuggets of information, but when gdupg35 started spewing cr*p, that was it. It's morons like him that make things more difficult for everyone else at dealerships.
For the record, I do not work for any car dealer. For a time, I did work in the industry as a warranty auditor. Dealers know that warranty work is found money, and an easy way to get customers into the store. The last thing most want to do is turn customers away. Unfortunately, some dealers are as unscrupulous as gdupg35 and will lie to the manufacturers to get bogus warranty claims paid. Sometimes they do it because customer pay work is slow, or they want to appear like a "stand-up guy" to their customer...as long as someone else pays. If dealers appear gun shy, it's because the manufacturers closely watch what they submit.
That being said, in the case of safety related items, I cannot see any manufacturer turning away a customer if there is even a remote chance that they may be at fault. It is in your best interest to have them inspect the vehicle. If they find that the installer created the problem, and more importantly, made sure that the problem still doesn't exist, you'll be on the hook for the repair but you'll have piece of mind. If they can't can't determine a cause, you might have a case for warranty or at least some goodwill assistance from their customer relations department. Just remember, goodwill is just that. Warranty is black and white, goodwill is in-between. If you work with them you might prevail, act like gdupg35 and get squat.
