2003 5AT transmission Shifting
This may be entirely me, but when I am down shifting the tiptronic i sometime notice that the shift is rough and the car jerks. It isnt smooth as when i am upshifting. Is that just me or has anyone else notice this. Is this a normal thing?
Your car doesn't have a Tiptronic.
There are many threads here about 'firm' shifting when in manual mode. The 'thump' varies under a myraid of circumstances, but is generally more apparent the further into the throttle you are.
It's been categorized as normal. I feel it most strongly on the 1-2, others reference it on the 2-3, even the 4-5. Whether or not it is normal will probably be determined when a few more cars reach maturity (over 50K) with a history of manual mode operation.
This is a stout slushbox. The same tranny is bolted to Infiniti's V8, and I know of no trend of failures in that application. If it 'bumps' with our 280/270, I'm sure it does the same (or stronger) behind the V8.
When downshifting, I feel a bit of a bump from 3-2, but that's probably me downshifting early to hear the revs. At lower RPMs it's butter.

^^yea its normal my tranny has been beaten up in little less then a year and it still hasnt fallen from my car yet..
my car was one week old and i forgot i put it back in drive and i went to shift it ..big mistake i hit reverse doen 20mph on a ON ramp..i got so scared..i did that twice...then i told some girl to shift my car and like 10mins later and 3 blocks away from where i originally told her to shift it when it was in manumatic mode..she decides to shift while im comen to a stop sign and its in drive. my car goes from drive to park while im comen to a rolling stop...I NO LONGER TALK TO THE GIRL.

I agree it does have that tendency also but I also find the sedan tranny much smoother and more reponsive. Does anyone know if there are major differances between the trannys? Can a coupe tranny go into a sedan and vice versa?
always very jerky.......takes the pleasantness out of driving in mm mode.........therefore i jst keep it in D other then when i really want to hear my exhaust

my tranny shifts real hard up and down in manual mode but not al the time. then the other night cruise set on 80 on I10 and been going for 400 miles then clank, rpms went down to 0000 and the tranny light came on with the slip light and tcs light and the brake light. so i took to dealer in tallahasse and they said it came back with 2 electrical tranny codes. now my car sucks only in the mornings though. they still dont have an answer for the problem but think i get new tranny tomorrow
