Unhappy My heart is wrecked, just like my G

Well.. I'm @ a loss for words. I was driving down South I-5 Thursday evening when out of the blue I see people waving off to the shoulder. I thought it was an emergency. It was. Straight ahead (I was in the right lane) was what appeared to be a crate wrapped in a green tarp.

SMACK!! 70mph (yeah.. I was going the speed limit.. give or take a few miles.) Dammit!! All I saw was glass and smoke. I immidiately grabbed a better hold of the wheel and re-gained control. Pulled off to the shoulder and examined the situation. Front bumper shattered on my drivers side. Fender pushed up into pilar. CAI broken in half. Headlamp.. blown. Sideskirt thrashed. And get this.. the direct impact pushed the fender upward directly hitting the pilar and bending the roof. The frame around my sunroof is ever so lightly bent upwards.

Needless to say, I had just put shocks, springs and the new wheels on. I was heartbroken. But we were all ok. (I had my two bros. w/ me.) Called Cali highway patrol and reported it. They scouted the area and found a couple of suitcases, an ice cooler, a bike and a roof rack. *sigh* I just had it towed from Freno Infiniti last night. I think it's a goner.

wow good thing you and your brothers are ok. And you just had work done to the car, that sucks.

well if it is a goner have you put any thought into what car you might get to replace it. The same car or different?

Sorry to hear that.... sucks big time.

I was scared sh1tless one time when a bike rack on a hard top camper came loose right in front of me...
It bounced up as it came off & went over my fender on an angle into the ditch.

Had to stop & change my shorts after that one

Glad everyone is safe &
I hope they do a good job patching it up for you.

I would have to lean towards an M3 don't get me wrong, I love the G. However, there's that certain emotional attachment to the first. hehe

Ouch!! So sorry to hear! I feel your pain, as my G35X #1 was rear-ended (frame damaged, about $18K in repairs) 6 months ago. Advice:
1) Find the best body shop you can. I ended up taking mine back 3 times before I was reasonably satisfied, and even then she wasn't back to new.
2) When the insurance company tells you they're going to fix it (and they likely will), make sure their estimate includes ALL the repairs (my initial estimate missed a few items, which raised my final price) AND any other incidental costs (rental car!) I ended up not renting, and at the end found out that had I rented a car for the FOUR months the car was in the shop, they would have added that to my estimate and considered my car totalled!!
3) If the repairs are going to be extensive, and it sounds like it might, ask about diminished loss of value of claim -- basically if you try to trade the car in, you will get less because it's been in an accident. applies usually to more extensive accidents (with mine, they gave $2200).

Good luck --- my accident was mid-October. I finally got my deductible refunded (since it wasn't my fault) last week, and in the end it cost me roughly the depreciation of the car ($36K new; got $25K in trade in plus 2.2K for diminished loss of value; KBB for trade-in was 25K), but a whole lot of phone calls, taking car back and forth to body shop 1 hr away, hassle and time. In the end, 6 months later, rust was already developing in the area where the new parts were welded to the old!

Good luck!! Kash

Gosh, I'm not so sure that is totalled. My 1st coupe got hit while parked on the street and it looked a lot worse than yours. Basically, the whole back end of the car had been ripped off.

The body shop quoted $16,000 worth of damage and the ins co. still wanted to fix it. Said they needed at least $20,000 of damage before they could total it.

Thumbs up

kashrahman
Thanks for the advice. I'll definately look into that. Yeah the Ins. Co. is already putting me at fault because "..under CA state law, you are to always maintain control of your vehicle.." Damn the Ins. Co. Good friend of mine works for a body shop that does REALLY good work, so I know I'm in good hands as far as that goes. I'll mention it to him though.

Well.. I hit the damn thing going 70. The impact was all concentrated on my drivers side. I won't know for sure if there was any frame damage yet.
